MONTICELLO, Minn. — Playing in less-than-ideal conditions, the Saint Mary's University of Minnesota men's golf team closed out the spring portion of their schedule Sunday afternoon.
Brett Jackson (Edmonton, Alberta) followed up his one-over-par opening round 73 with rounds of 76 and 81, respectively, to help the Cardinals to a 19
th-place showing in the 54-hole Saint John's Spring Invitational at the Monticello Country Club.
After opening with a 310 team total on Saturday, the Cardinals put together rounds of 314 and 325 in their 36 holes on Sunday for a 949 total.
Kyle Brodt (Roseville, Minn.) carded three straight rounds in the 70s for the Cardinals over the weekend, adding a 79 and a 78 to his opening-round 76 to finish with a 233, three shots back of Jackson's team-best 230.
David Iten (Fridley, Minn.) chipped in a 240 (81-77-82), followed by
Owen Blakely (Elmhurst, Ill. / 80-85-86—251) and
Hunter Rau (Plainview, Minn. / 86-82-84—252).
Gustavus took home the team title, shooting a three-over-par 859, four shots better than runner-up UW-Eau Claire. Host Saint John's (868), Bethel (869), and St. Thomas (869) rounded out the top five.
Gustavus' Andrew Krasaway, fueled by an opening-round seven-under-par 65, carded back-to-back even-par rounds of 71 Sunday for a 207 54-hole total, and a one-stroke win over Matt Rachey of the University of Minnesota. St. Thomas' Derek Farrell and Nick Nielsen each shot five-under 209s, with UW-Eau Claire's Joey Dreier rounding out the top five with a two-under 212.
