GALENA, Ill. —
Brett Jackson (Edmonton, Alberta) and
Blair Sanders (Lee's Summit, Mo.) led the way for the Saint Mary's University of Minnesota men's golf team at the Midwest Region Classic Saturday afternoon.
Jackson and Sanders carded identical three-over-par 75s to help the Cardinals to a 314 opening-day total and an 11th-place team showing. The Cardinal duo are sitting tied for eighth, six shots back of individual leader Blaine Buente of Millikin, who shot a three-under 69.
Luther is the first-day team leader, carding a 303 to hold a one shot lead over Millikin and a two-shot advantage over Elmhurst. UW-Stout (306) is fourth, and Webster (307) rounded out the top five.
Kyle Brodt (Roseville, Minn.) added an 81, while
David Iten (Fridley, Minn.) and
Hunter Rau (Rushford, Minn.) chipped in 83s, and
Bryce Galewski (Winona, Minn.) finished with an 87.
The 36-hole tournament concludes on Sunday with a second round at Eagle Ridge Resort
