BECKER, Minn. — For the second day in a row,
Kaitlin Kling (LeRoy, Minn.) turned in the low round for the Saint Mary's University of Minnesota women's golf team Sunday afternoon at the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Championships.
Kling, competing in the final MIAC Championships of her collegiate career, followed up her opening-round 87 with an 88 for a 175 total heading into Monday's final round.
With Kling leading the way, the Cardinals are currently tied for ninth with Augsburg with a 781 36-hole total (397-384).
First-round leader Carleton pushed its lead over Saint Benedict to 27 strokes with a second-day 304 and a 36-hole 609. Saint Benedict is sitting at 627 (320-307), followed by St. Thomas (321-309—630), St. Catherine (320-320—640), and Gustavus (330-316—645.
Carleton's Ziyi Wang and Abby Euyang are the top two individuals heading into Monday's final round. Wang holds a two-shot lead over her teammate following her 73-74—147. Euyang is sitting at 75-75—149, followed by Emily Thul of St. Thomas (77-74—151), and St. Catherine's Kaitlyn Alvarez (74-78—152) and Sydney Busker (81-71—162).
Grace Gillis (New Ulm, Minn.) posted a 102 Sunday and is sitting at 199 (97-102), one shot in front of
Paula Avila (Weslaco, Texas), who whittled 16 strokes off her opening-round 1-8 with a 92 Sunday for a 200 two-day total.
Michaela Heuckendorf (Plymouth, Minn. / 105-102—207) and
Annika Blesener (North St. Paul, Minn. / 109-111—220) rounded out the Cardinals' lineup.
The 54-hole MIAC Championships concludes on Monday, with the final 18 holes at Pebble Creek Golf Course beginning at 9 a.m.
