Kaitlin Kling (Le Roy, Minn.) kicked off her final season as a member of the Saint Mary's University of Minnesota women's golf team I impressive fashion, carding a team-leading 82 to put her tied for 18
th after the opening round of the Saint Benedict Invitational at Blackberry Ridge Golf Course.
Fueled by Kling's performance, the Cardinals head into Sunday's final round sitting 13
th with a 406 total. Carleton shot a 318 to take a 10-shot lead over St. Thomas after Day 1, with St. Catherine (329), Gustavus (333), and Saint Benedict (336) rounding out the top five.
Carleton's Ziyi Wang shot a one-over-par 73 to take the top spot individually, with St. Olaf's Melissa Biesmann sitting second, two shots back.
Along with Kling's opening-day 82, the Cardinals also got a 98 from
Paula Avila (Weslaco, Texas), a 110 from
Grace Gillis (New Ulm, Minn.), a 116 from
Tiarra Thompson (Jonesboro, Ga.), and a 120 from
Michaela Heuckendorf (Plymouth, Minn.).
