SARTELL, Minn. — Kaitlin Kling (Le Roy, Minn.) kicked off her final season as a member of the Saint Mary's University of Minnesota women's golf team I impressive fashion, carding a team-leading 82 to put her tied for 18^th after the opening round of the Saint Benedict Invitational at Blackberry Ridge Golf Course.
 
Fueled by Kling's performance, the Cardinals head into Sunday's final round sitting 13^th with a 406 total. Carleton shot a 318 to take a 10-shot lead over St. Thomas after Day 1, with St. Catherine (329), Gustavus (333), and Saint Benedict (336) rounding out the top five.
 
Carleton's Ziyi Wang shot a one-over-par  73 to take the top spot individually, with St. Olaf's Melissa Biesmann sitting second, two shots back.
 
Along with Kling's opening-day 82, the Cardinals also got a 98 from Paula Avila (Weslaco, Texas), a 110 from Grace Gillis (New Ulm, Minn.), a 116 from Tiarra Thompson (Jonesboro, Ga.), and a 120 from Michaela Heuckendorf (Plymouth, Minn.).
