DECORAH, Iowa — The Saint Mary's University of Minnesota women's golf team—fueled by
Kaitlin Kling's (LeRoy, Minn.) team-best 85—posted a fourth-place 376 total during the opening round of the Luther Invitational Friday at Oneota Golf Course.
Along with Kling's opening-round 85, the Cardinals also got a 94 from
Paula Avila (Weslaco, Texas), a 95 from
Grace Gillis (New Ulm, Minn.), a 102 from
Michaela Heuckendorf (Plymouth, Minn.), and a 108 from
Annika Blesener (North St. Paul, Minn.).
Tiarra Thompson (Jonesboro, Ga.), playing as an individual, carded a 120.
Host Luther, fueled by a seven-over-par medalist round of 79 from Morgan Kranz, took the opening-day lead with a 334 total, 13 shots in front of the University of Dubuque.
Daniela Miranda enters Saturday's final round trailing Kranz by two shots in the individual race, with Luther's Linda Jiang and Elyse Menssen both three shots back after opening-round 83s.
