WAVERYLY, Iowa — The Saint Mary's University of Minnesota women's golf team finally got some playable weather conditions Saturday afternoon, as a pair of Cardinals kicked off the spring season at the Wartburg Spring Fling.

Michaela Heuckendorf (Plymouth, Minn.) carded a 100 and Annika Blesener (North St. Paul, Minn.) chipped in a 101 for the Cardinals.

Carleton grabbed the opening-day lead in the 12-team tournament, shooting a 321 to lead Central-Iowa, Grinnell, and St. Catherine by two strokes heading into Sunday's final round. St. Thomas rounded out the top five, shooting a 324 to sit three shots back of the Knights.

Wartburg's Brooke Klostermann fired a three-under-par 69 to earn the top individual spot, three shots in front of St. Thomas' Emily Thul, who finished with an even-par 72. Vrishali Sinha of Grinnell (73), Alyssa Ailyama of Carleton (76), Morgan McCorkle of St. Thomas (77), and Vidushi Sinha of Grinnell (77) rounded out the top six spots.

The 36-hole tournament, held at Prairie Links Golf Course, concludes on Sunday.
