Heuckendorf's 90 fuels Cardinals

WAVERLY, Iowa — Michaela Heuckendorf (Plymouth, Min.) was good in Saturday's opening round of the Wartburg Spring Fling golf tournament—but the Saint Mary's Universiyt of Minnesota sophomore was even better in Sunday's finale round.
 
Much, much better.
 
Heuckendorf shaved 10 strokes off her opening-round 100, carding a second-day 90 to finish the 36-hole event with a 190 total. Annika Blesener (North St. Paul, Minn.) followed up her Day 1 101 with a 105 for a 206 showing for the Cardinals.
 
Carleton, which entered Sunday's final round with a two-shot lead over Grinnell, fired a tournament-low 314 for a 635 total and a seven-shot win over runner-u St. Thomas. Central-Iowa and St. Catherine finished tied for thired at 645, with Grinnell rounding out the top five with a 654 total.
 
St. Thomas's Emily Thul recorded her second straight even-par 72 to win medalist honors with a 144 total, two shots in front of first-round leader Brooke Klostermann of Wartburg, who added a 77 to Saturday's three-uner 69. Vidushi Sinha and Vrishali Sinha of Grinnell and Gustavus' McKenzie Swenson all finished tied for third with 153 36-hole totals.
