WINONA, Minn. —
Jessica Massimo (Kenosha, Wis.) shot an opening-round 88, leaving her tied for sixth, just six shots back of Day 1 leader Hannah Gorn of Simpson after the opening round of the Saint Mary's Invitational Saturday.
Along with Massimo's 88, the Cardinals also got a 94 from Annie Lorung (Galesville, Wis.), a 100 from
Michaela Heuckendorf (Plymouth, Minn.), a 102 from
Dani Stevens (Delano, Minn.), and a 105 from
Megan Larson (Amery, Wis.).
Macalester holds a one-shot lead over Simpson after the opening round of the 36-hole event, shooting a 354, followed by Simpson (355), UW-La Crosse (375) and Augsburg (376).
Simpson's Hannah Gordon and Lydia Martin share the team lead with opening-round 82s, followed by Natalie Fellows of UW-La Crosse, an 86 by Emma Kraft of Augsburg and an 88 from Tenley Smith of Macalester.
The Cardinals return to The Bridges Golf Course on Sunday for the second day of the 36-hole Saint Mary's Invitational on Sunday.
