Cardinals place 6th at home invite

WINONA, Minn. — The Saint Mary's University of Minnesota women's golf team shaved four strokes off its opening-round performance during the second day of the Saint Mary's Invitational Sunday afternoon.
 
Annie Lorsung (Amery, Wis.) led the way for the Cardinals, shooting a team-low second-round score of 90 to help Saint Mary's to a sixth-place team finish with a 764 total (384-380).
 
Jessica Massimo (Kenosha, Wis.), who delivered an 88 during Saturday's opening round at The Bridges, closed with a 95 for a team-best 183, one shot better than Lorsung (94-90—184). Megan Larson (Galesville, Wis.) shaved nine shots off her opening-round 105, shooting a 96 Sunday for a 201 36-hole total, a mark equaled by Dani Stevens (Delano, Minn. / 102-99—201), while Michaela Heuckendorf (Plymouth, Minn.) rounded out the Cardinal lineup with a 203 (100-103).
 
Macalester took home the team title, shooting a 707 (354-353) to edge runner-up Simpson (358-372—730). UW-La Crosse finished third (375-357—732), followed by St. Scholastica (384-365—749), Augsburg (376-384—760), and Saint Mary's.
 
Simpsons Hannah Gordon earned medalist honors, shooting rounds of 82-82—164 to hold off Macalester's Izzy Hebert (88-82—170) and Tenley Smith (86-89—175).
