COLFAX, Wis. — Now that's more like it.
After having their first meet cancelled due to heavy rains and poor course conditions, and their second meet run in 90-degree heat, Mother Nature finally cut the Saint Mary's University of Minnesota cross country teams a break Friday afternoon.
And the Cardinals took full advantage.
Isaiah Olsem (Fulda, Minn.) clocked an eight-kilometer time of 27:10 to lead the way for the Saint Mary's men for the second straight meet — helping SMU to a 24
th-place showing — while
Danielle Franke (Mounds View, Minn.) was the top finisher for the Saint Mary's women, posting a 6K time of 24:37 to lead the Cardinal women to a 22
nd-place showing.
Tanner Moris (Crandon, Wis.) was the second Cardinal male across the finish line, stopping the clock in 27:45, followed by
Jordan Malikowski (Royalton, Minn. / 27:51), and Jonathon Meaden (Rosemount, Minn. / 28:07),
Tyler Northey (Esko, Minn. / 28:44).
On the women's side,
Anna Marinc (Carol Stream, Ill.) chipped in a time of 25:25, followed by
Erika Thiel (Burr Ridge, Ill. / 26:38),
Emily Ortiz (Albert Lea, Minn. / 26:53),
Tabby Fabin (Elk Grove Village, Ill. / 27:29), and
Emma Ririe (28:09).
UW-Stout ran away with the men's top spot, beating St. Olaf by seven points. UW-Eau Claire placed third (111), with Carleton (112) and UW-Stevens Point (134 rounding out the top five.
Host UW-Eau Claire took home the team title on the women's side, eding out Carleton by two points. Wheaton (Ill.) (99), was third, followed by St. Olaf (154) and North Central (Ill.) (156).
The Cardinals are back in action on Oct. 13, heading to Ettrick Golf Course in Ettrick, Wis., to take part in the UW-La Crosse Jim Drews and Tori Neubauer Invitationals.
