WINONA, Minn. — The Saint Mary's University women's swimming team kicked off its season in winning fashion Friday evening, as the Cardinals opened the year with a 101-94 dual meet win over Concordia Friday at the Jul Gernes Pool.
Brooke Shefchik (Stevens Point, Wis.) and
Alexis Holliday (South Milwaukee, Wis.) led the way for the Cardinals, as Shefchik picked up first-place finishes in the 1000 freestyle (11:53.49) and 500 freestyle (5:54.54), while adding a second in the 100 breaststroke (1:18.14), and Holliday added a first in the 50 freestyle (27.74).
Katie Domack (Lakeville, Minn.) delivered a first-place showing in the 100 butterfly (2:35.50), while
Katie Beitz (Blaine, Minn.) added second-place showings in the 50 freestyle (27.78) and 100 freestyle (100.99).
Claire King (Red Wing, Minn. / 500 freestyle, 6:10.05),
Olivia Fleming (Hugo, Minn. / 200 IM, 2:35.59; 100 butterfly, 1:17.19), and Domack (200 freestyle, 2:13.03) chipped in second-place efforts.
The Cardinals and Cobbers are both back in action on Saturday, taking part in a double-dual with Iowa Lake Community College at Jul Gernes Pool. Events kick off at noon.
