MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. — The Saint Mary's University swim teams have been in a record-breaking mood during the four-day Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Championships — and Saturday was no different.

After watching Brooke Shefchik (Stevens Point, Wis.) rattle off three school record over the meet's first three days, the Cardinals' Brennen McClay (Shakopee, Minn.) decided to give it a whirl.

McClay shattered the school mark in the 100 freestyle, touching the wall in 47.38 to earn a spot in the B Finals. McClay — who reached the B finals in both the 50 freestyle and 200 freestyle — posted a time of 47.87 in Saturday's final to place 12th.

Shefchik, however, made sure to share the record-breaking spotlight with McClay, as the Cardinal junior picked up school records No. 4 and No. 5 on the weekend — breaking both the 1,000 and 1,650 freestyle marks.

Shefchik — who already etched her name in the school record books in the 500 freestyle (5:23.13), the 400 IM (4:58.47) and as a member of the 800 freestyle relay team that broke its own school record with a time of 8:30.30 — clocked a record-setting time of 11:25.98 during the first 1,000 and ended the 1,650 event with a new school record time of 18:57.76.

Katie Beitz (Blaine, Minn.) posted a lifetime-best time of 58.39 to lead a trio of Cardinal women in the 100 freestyle. Ashlyn Seifert (Austin, Texas) and Claire King (Red Wing, Minn.) added times of 59.31 and 1:00.21, respectively.

Erica Camarato (DeForest, Wis.) delivered a season-best 2:54.04 in the 200 breaststtroke, and Griffin Rades (Shawano, Wis.) — fresh off a B Final performance in the 100 backstroke on Friday — chipped in a season-best showing in the 200 backstroke with a time of 2:10.59.

In the final events of the meet, the Cardinal men's 400 freestyle relay team of McClay, Griffin Rades (Shawano, Wis.), Darren Anes Dy Quiangco (Rochester, Minn.), and Jostin Alvarado (Northlake, Ill.) placed eighth with a time of 3:38.38, while the women's team of Beitz, Shefchik, King, and Seifert placed 10th in 3:56.49.

The Saint Mary's men finished eighth in the final team standings, while the Cardinal women were ninth.
