COLFAX, Wis. — Isaiah Olsem (Fulda, Minn.) and
Danielle Franke (Mounds View, Minn.) have proven to be the individual leaders for the Saint Mary's University cross country teams this season — and Friday was no different.
Olsem led the way for the Cardinal men, touring the eight-kilometer course in 27:11.91, while Franke was the top finisher for the Saint Mary's women, stopping the clock with a 6K time of 24.21.7.
St. Olaf took home the men's team title, finishing with 93 points, followed by UW-Stout (102), UW-Stevens Point (113), Carleton (127), and UW-Eau Claire (143). The Cardinals placed 23rd in the 28-team field.
Host UW-Eau Claire captured the women's team title with 49 points, edging out the University of Minnesota and St. Olaf, who tied for second with 61. UW-Stevens Point (152) placed fourth and UW-Oshkosh was fifth (169). Saint Mary's placed 21st among the 27 teams competing.
Jordan Malikowski (Royalton, Minn.) was the second Cardinal across the finish line, stopping the clock in 27:44.64, with Tanner Moris (Crandon Wis. / 27:48.98), Axel Daood (St. Charles, Minn. / 27:56.88), Jon Meaden (Rosemount, Minn. / 28:08.74), and Caedon McCartney (Owatonna, Minn. / 28:44.95) rounded out the Cardinals' lineup
UW-Whitewater's David Fassbender took home the men's individual title, recording an 8K time of 24:52.56 to edge Carleton's Matthew Wilkinson (24:58.22). Zach Klokow of UW-Platteville was third (25:06.09), with Spencer Schultz of UW0Stout (25:13.94) and UW-Eau Claire's Connor Dolan (25:15.27) rounding out the top five.
Anna Marinc (Carol Stream, Ill.) finished second to Franke for the Cardinal women, breaking the tape in 25:05.06, followed by
Anna Swanson (Osceola, Wis. / 26:32.1),
Amelia Sweet (Prescott, Wis. / 27:08.4),
Julia VanWatermeulen (Ellsworth, Wis. / 27:55.4),
Emma Ririe (Darien, Ill. / 28:08.6),
Madalyn Bollig (St. Croix Falls, Wis. / 28:45.7), and
Rachel Simon (Foley, Minn. / 31:57.2).
Bryony Hawgood of St. Olaf was crowned the women's individual champion, posting a time of 21:64.8 to edge UW-Eau Claire's Lexie Tremble (22:09), with Rebekkah Pyle of Lakehead (22:12), Morgan Marek (unattached, 22:12.1), and University of Minnesota's Elena Hayday (22:23.2) rounding out the top five.
The Cardinals are now off until Oct. 19, when they head to Ettrick Golf Course in Ettrick Wis., to take part in the Jim Drews/Tori Neubauer Invitational, hosted by UW-La Crosse.
