NORTHFIELD, Minn. — If Saturday's performances were any indication, Kyle Lichttenegger (De Pere, Wis.), Desmond Steward (Bayside, Wis.), and the rest of the Saint Mary's University of Minnesota men's track and field team is more than ready for next weekend's Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Championships.
Lichttenegger posted first- and second-place performances and Steward added a first and a fourth to pace the Cardinals at the St. Olaf Tostrud Classic — hosted at the site of next weekend's conference indoor championships.
Lichttenegger raced to a first in the 60, clocking a time of 7.08, while adding a second in the 200, stopping the clock in 23.04. Steward, meanwhile, won the triple jump with a leap of 13.75 meters and chipped in a fourth in the long jump with a mark of 6.48 meters.
Ben Borash (Bowlus, Minn.) also had a top-five effort for the Cardinals, placing fourth in the 600 with a time of 1:26.34.
While the Cardinal men were making noise at St. Olaf, the Saint Mary's women headed north to take part in the University of Minnesota Parents' Day Open.
And
Rachel Ohde (Chetek, Wis.) continued to be a force to be reckoned with in the high jump, as the junior won the event with a leap of 1.66 meters. Ohde has now placed first of second in all six of the Cardinals' indoor meets this season.
The Saint Mary's 4 x 400 relay team of Alicia Schurrer (Forest Lake, Minn.),
Kynzie Smedsrud (Luverne, Minn.),
Hannah Crowe (Baraboo, Wis.), and
Sydney Klausler (Lakeville, Minn.) chipped in a fifth-place time of 4:15.00
The Cardinals return to St. Olaf Thursday-Saturday to take part in the indoor season-ending MIAC Championships.
