MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. — After watching teammates Griffin Rades (Shawano, Wis.) and Cole Stepanovich (St. Francis, Wis.) take center stage with their consolation finals appearances Saturday evening, Saint Mary's University of Minnesota's Alex Morrow decided to get into the act.
The Cardinal sophomore qualified for the consolation final in the 200 butterfly during Sunday's final day of the four-day Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Swimming and Diving Championships, posting a qualifying time of 2:09.54.
In the consolation finals, Morrow touched the wall in 2:10.25 to place 16th overall . Along with his 16-place-effort in the 200 butterfly, Morrow also clocked a time of 18:49.85 in the 1650 freestyle.
And Morrow wasn't alone, as
Brooke Shefchik (Stevens Point, Wis.) — already boasting three school records — also posted a Top 20 finish, placing 18th in the 1650 freestyle with 19:03.31.
Amanda Hansen (Brooklyn Park, Minn.) posted a time of 2:35.92 in the 200 backstroke during Sunday's preliminaries, while
Katie Beitz (Blaine, Minn.),
Ashlyn Seifert (Austin, Texas), and
Claire King (Red Wing, Minn.) posted times of 50.02, 1:00.10, and 1:01.14 in the 100 freestyle.
Emme Quandt (Shawano, Wis.) chipped in a 2:31.93 in the 200 butterfly and
Erica Camarato (DeForest, Wis.) delivered a 2:43.69 in the 200 breaststroke.
Kierra Walske (Rochester, Minn.) closed out her collegiate career with an 18
th-place finish in the 1xxw-meter diving competition, finishing with 258.85 points.
On the men's side, while Griffin Rades (Shawano, Wis.) posted a 2:07.20 in the 200 backstroke, while Darren Anes Dy Quiangco (Rochester, Minn.) added a 2:29.86 in the 200 breaststroke, and Stepanovich recorded a 2:17.07 in the 200 butterfly.
The women's 400 freestyle relay team of Seifert, Beitz, King, and Shefchik clocked a time of 3:55.14, while the men's team of Rades, Stepanovich, Morrow, and Casey Hanson (Grand Rapids, Minn.) chipped in a time of 3:15.10.
