WINONA, Minn. — In less than two seasons, teams in the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference have learned the hard way that scoring runs off Saint Mary's University's James Green (East Bethel, Minn.) is no easy task.
 
Bethel can certainly attest to that.
 
Less than a week after tossing complete-game shutouts against both Macalester and Concordia, Green baffled both the Royals in his lone start last week, posting his third straight, seven-inning shutout in leading the Cardinals to a 1-0 win over Bethel Sunday.
 
And Monday afternoon, the conference office once again rewarded Green for his efforts, naming the sophomore right-hander the MIAC Pitcher of the Week for the third time this season and fourth time in his two-year collegiate career.
 
Green — who extended his scoreless inning streak to 21 straight innings with his seven-inning gem against Bethel Sunday — limiting Bethel to just five hits, all singles, while walking one and striking out five. Green allowed just one batter to reach third base and surrendered two hits in an inning just once. During his current 21-inning shutout run, Green has allowed just 15 hits — all singles — walked three and struck out 22.
 
With his 1-0 win over Bethel Sunday — his second straight 1-0 victory — Green improved to 7-0 and lowered his ERA to 1.38. He has logged 52.1 innings in eight starts and has gone at least six innings in each of his eight starts. Green has allowed just nine runs this season and has struck out 60 — including a career-high 13 against Concordia-Chicago on March 22.
 
The Cardinals (11-7 MIAC, 19-15 overall) are back in action on Wednesday, hosting league-leading Gustavus in a 2:30 p.m. conference doubleheader at Max Molock Field.
