WINONA, Minn. — The post-season awards keep piling up for Saint Mary's University's
James Green (East Bethel, Minn.).
Â
Already the owner of 2019 Pitcher of the Year and First-Team honors from the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference — not to mention D3basebal.com First-Team All-Midwest Region and Google Cloud Academic All-District VI — Green added to his post-season haul on Tuesday, being named D3baseball.com Third-Team All-America.
Â
Green was one of just two members of the MIAC to earn D3baseball.com All-America honors, being joined by MIAC Player of the Year Graham Lowe of Macalester, who was a Fourth-Team selection.
Â
In 10 appearances this season, Green — who helped lead the Cardinals to a second straight MIAC Tournament appearance, and their sixth post-season showing in the last eight years — compiled a near-perfect 8-1 record and a microscopic 1.85 ERA.
Â
The sophomore right-hander logged a team-leading 58.1 innings and pitched at least six innings in eight of his nine starts this season. Opponents hit just .194 against Green, who accounted for four of the Cardinal pitching staff's six complete games, and boasted a team-high 63 strikeouts — including a career-high 13 against No. 1-ranked Concordia-Chicago on March 22 — and walked just 10 batters.
Â
A total of 848 players were nominated for the 13th annual D3baseball.com All-America team.
Toby Welk from Penn State Berks was named D3baseball.com's Player of the Year, while John Howard of Washington (Mo.) University earned Pitcher of the Year honors and Hendrix's
Jack Hodgins was tabbed Rookie of the Year.
