COLFAX, Wis. — The Saint Mary's University cross country teams toed the line in at the NCAA Division III North Regional Saturday afternoon determined to make their final meet of the season their best.

And the Cardinals did not disappoint.

Amanda Tuvey (West St. Paul, Minn.),
Caroline Gearin (Osceola, Wis.), and
Anna Swanson (Osceola, Wis.) all posted career-best times for the Saint Mary's women, while Quinn Steinbrecher (Holmen, Wis.) shaved 20 seconds off his career-best performance to lead the way for the Cardinal men's trio.

Running in her first-ever regional meet, Tuvey saved her best for last, knocking 30 seconds off per best time as a Cardinal, touring the six-kilometer course in 24:46 to easily eclipse her then-career-best time of 25:16, set at the UW-La Crosse Tori Neubauer Invitational on Oct. 15.

Gearin finished right on Tuvey's heels with a time of 24:50 — more than a minute faster than her previous-best time of 25:57, set at the UW-La Crosse Tori Neubauer Invitational. Swanson also enjoyed a career day, crossing the finish line in 25:02, 25 seconds better than her MIAC Championships time of two weeks ago.

Steinbrecher (Holmen, Wis.) closed out his sophomore campaign touring the eight-kilometer course in 27:45 – shattering his previous personal best of 28:05 set at the UW-La Crosse Jim Drews Invitational on Oct 15. Isaiah Brindamour (Hinckley, Minn.) chipped in a time of 28:00, while Gabriel Bickerstaff (Rollingstone, Minn.) rounded out the SMU threesome, stopping the clock in 29:26.

UW-La Crosse captured the women's team title, finishing with 50 points to easily outdistance runner-up UW-Eau Claire (85). Carleton placed third (91), followed by St. Olaf (124) and UW-Oshkosh (178).

Saint Benedict's Fiona Smith earned the individual crown, posting a 6K time of 20:57 t, while Carleton's Clara Mayfield was second in 21:25. Uw-Oshkosh's Hannah Lohrenz (22:07), Emma Malooly (22:20), and UW-Eau Claire's Carolyn Shult (22:21) completed the top five.

UW-Whitewater took home the men's team title,finishing with 58 points to edge UW-La Crosse by one point. UW-Oshkosh finished third with 124, while UW-Eau LClaire (139) and St. Olaf (167) rounded out the top five.

The Warhawks took the top two individual spots — David Fassbender and Christia Patzka finishing with four tenths of a second apart, with Ethan Gregg of UW-La Crosse (24:40), Logan Bocovich of St. Olaf (24:41), and Lloyd Young of Saint John's (24:43 completing the top five. All five individuals crossed the finish line within nine seconds of each other.
