  SAINT MARY'S CARDINALS SCOUTING REPORT
season — kicked off 2021 with an 8-2 win over St. Scholastica at US Bank Stadium last Monday. Saint Mary's trailed the Saints 9-8 heading to the top of the sixth when the game was halted. … Justin Weinberg (Eagan, Minn._ led the Cardinal offensive attack in their opener against the Saints last Monday, going 3-for-4 with a pair of runs scored. Joey Costello (Victoria, Minn.) added a 2-for-4 effort, with Will Matthews (Geneva, Ill.), Taylor Anderson (Waukesha, Wis.), Tyler O'Brian (Belle Plaine, Minn.), and Isaac Blum (Verona, Wis.) accounting for Saint Mary's other four hits. … Anderson accounted for three of the Cardinals' seven RBIs vs. St. Scholastica. … Weinberg delivered both of Saint Mary's 2020 home runs — launching a two-run shot in Game 2 against Widener on the first day of the trip on March 1 and adding another  two-run blast against Rhode Island on the final day of the trip on March 8. … SMU used four pitchers against the Saints in the teams' season-opening. Ryan Wolfe (Wabasha, Minn.) went two inning in the start, allowing two runs on four hits, while Jonathan Cieminski (Fountain City, Wis.) and Jordan Zabel (Elgin, Minn.) each tossed two shutout innings, and Kodey Kiel (Owatonna, Minn.) tossed a scoreless final inning. … With their 8-2 win over St. Scholastica, Saint Mary's has won its last four straight, having closed out its shortened season a year ago with three wins. …  Saint Mary's 11-4 win over No. 14 St. John Fisher on March 3, 2020 was the 200th career coaching victory for Cardinal head coach Nick Winecke.
 
  LUTHER NORSE SCOUTING REPORT
Luther kicked off its season with a pair of convincing wins over Cornell, beating the Rams 12-3 and 11-7. … The Norse compiled a 5-4 record before the pandemic shut down the 2020 season — opening with four straight wins, before dropping four of their final five. … Owen Vander Linden and Kelby Johnson each had four hits in Luther's season-opening doubleheader against Cornell, while Joe Jeresak, Joe McKibben, and Luke Plunkette all finished with three hits. … Johnson and Plunkett each scored four times in the two games vs. the Rams, while McKibben, Vander Linden, Cullen Stamp, and Jayden Kies scored three times. … Luther boasted 11 extra-base hits, including seven doubles, one triple, and three home runs. Vander Linden accounted for two of those three round-trippers, with Johnson belting the other. …  Luther used six pitchers in its two games against Cornell. Tyler Boesel (1-0, 0.00 ERA) led the way, tossing five innings in his lone start, while Nick Dufoe (1-0, 0.00 ERA) tossed three innings in his start. John Colucci (0-0, 0.00) and Ross Hingst (0-0, 0.00) each threw three innings of relief, and Will Angstman (0-0, 18.00 ERA) and Carter Bratland (0-0, 9.00 ERA) each threw one inning. … Hingst led the Luther staff with four strikeouts against Cornell, with Dufoe, Angstman, and Bossel all striking out three.
