ST. PETER, Minn. — The Saint Mary's University women's tennis team had no answer for Gustavus' explosive lineup, as the Cardinals dropped a 9-0 decision to the Gusties Saturday afternoon at the Swanson Tennis Center.
"Gustavus is a very talented team," said Saint Mary's coach
Jeff Halberg. "I thought we played very well and gave it a great effort. Our No. 2 doubles team came oh so close — it just wasn't meant to be today."
The Cardinals dropped all three doubles matches to open the match, including a heartbreaking 8-6 loss by
Kennedy Morgan (Green Bay, Wis.) and
Kailee Johnson (Rochester, Minn.) at No. 2.
The Gusties depth was too much in singles, as GAC dropped just 14 games in sweeping all six singles matches in straight sets.
The Cardinals (2-6 MIAC, 6-6 overall) are right back in action on Sunday, returning home to the Winona Tennis Center for a 9 a.m. conference match against Concordia.
