  SAINT MARY'S CARDINALS SCOUTING REPORT
TOP OF THE HEAP: Anna Swanson (Osceola, Wis.) heads into the MIAC Outdoor Championships sitting 10th in the nation — and tops in the MIAC — in the javelin with her toss of 42.46 meters, set at the Drake Alternative on April 24. Sydney Klausler (Lakeville, Minn.) and Rachel Ohde (Chetek, Wis.) also enter the outdoor championships owning the top performance in their respective events — Klausler in the long jump (5.55m) and Ohde in the high jump (1.63m). Caroline Gearin (Osceola, Wis.) ranks second in the pole vault (3.40m) and third in the 400 (59.11). On the men's side, Matt Boone (Mindoro, Wis.) is sitting No. 2 in the 100 (10.79) and No. 3 in the 200 (22.02), while Kyle Lichttenegger (De Pere, Wis.) is second in the long jump (6.87m) and third in the 100 (10.81).
FINAL TUNE-UP: The Cardinals recorded seven first-place finishes and 23 Top-5 efforts in their final conference championship tune-up last Saturday at the St. Olaf Ole Open. Boone, Jon Meaden (Rosemount, Minn.), Coleton Strupp (Holmen, Wis.), and the 4x100 relay team delivered first-place performances for the SMU men, with Boone winning the 100 (10.79), while Meaden took first in the 1,500 (4:07.01), Strupp won the pole vault (4.20m), and the 4x100 relay stopped the clock in 41.62.  On the women's side, Ohde took home top honors in the high jump, clearing 1.63 meters, Gearin stopped the clock in 59.52 to win the 400, and the 4x400 relay team broke the tape with a winning time of 4:15.19.
LOOKING BACK: Saint Mary's recorded three first-place finishes and added 15 Top-5 performances at the St. Thomas Tomcat Invitational on April 30. … The Cardinals delivered 11 first-place individual event winners at the SMU Drake Alternative on April 24. … The Cardinals recorded 10 first-place finishes and posted 31 Top 5 performances at the non-team-scored Hamline Invitational on April 17. … In their second road meet of the season, the Cardinals posted a combined 10 first-place finishes — including a pair of individual titles and a relay title for Boone — and boasted 21 Top 3 performances at the Gustavus Lee Krough Invitational on April 10. … The Cardinals picked up 19 Top 5 performances — including four event winners — at the Saint John's Invitational on April 2. … The Cardinals put together 16 first-place finishes in the rain-plagued Masked Mayhem Opener on March 27 at the Saint Mary's Track & Field Complex, led by Boone, who posted his second straight first-place triple — winning the 100 prelims, 100 finals, and 200. Swanson (Osceola, Wis.) led the way for the Cardinal women, posting three first-place efforts — winning the 800, the javelin, and running the anchor leg of the Cardinals' winning 4x400 relay. … In their only indoor meet of the 2021 season, the Cardinals collected a combined 15 first-place finishes — including three by Boone.
