WINONA, Minn. — If you look up the definition of a brick wall in the dictionary, you are likely to find a picture of Saint Mary's University goalkeeper
Alexis Nguyen (West Corvina, Calif.)
Nguyen has been absolutely dominant in goal for the Cardinal women's soccer team this season — and last week was no exception.
Facing two teams that reached the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Tournament in 2019 — the last time the conference held a post-season tourney — Nguyen posted back-to-back shutouts in leading Saint Mary's to a 1-0 win over Carleton and a 0-0, double-overtime tie against Saint Benedict.
And Monday, the junior was recognized for her efforts, being named MIAC Athlete of the Week, the league office announced.
Nguyen opened her week with a stellar showing against Carleton, stopping all six Knight shots in Saint Mary's 1-0 victory. It was her third shutout of the season, and the six saves were a career high.
Three days later, Nguyen was at it again, stopping all four Saint Benedict shots in 110 minutes of work in the Cardinals' 0-0 tie with the Bennies.
Nguyen has not allowed a goal in 498:14 between the pipes and has stopped all 15 shots she's faced.
