  SAINT MARY'S CARDINALS SCOUTING REPORT
• 2-FOR-2: The Cardinals picked up their second straight shutout win to open the season last Saturday, getting a second half penalty kick goal from Mikayla McCart (Council Bluffs, Iowa) en route to a 1-0 road win over Coe.
• STRONG START: Saint Mary's has now opened the season 2-0-0 for the second time in the last three seasons. The Cardinals kicked off the 2019 campaign winning their first four games.
• ON A ROLL: The Cardinals head into Monday's nonconference game against Martin Luther a perfect 6-0-0 against the Knights. SMU has outscored MLC 34-5 in their six meetings.
• CAREER FIRSTS: All three of the Cardinals goals this season have been collegiate firsts. Haddy Falkman (Waconia, Minn.) and Brooklyn McKinney (Thornton, Colo.) scored the Cardinals' two goals in their season-opening win over UW-Superior last Wednesday, while McCart tallied the game's lone goal in SMU's 1-0 win over Coe three days later.
• FIRST OF THE SEASON: Falkman's goal in the fifth minute against UW-Superior Wednesday was the Cardinals' first of the season.
• LENDING A HELPING HAND: Along with her first-half goal, Falkman also assisted on Brooklyn McKinney's second-half tally en route to her first career three-point game.
• THE BRICK WALL: Alexis Nguyen (West Corvina, Calif.) recorded her second career shutout, stopping the lone shot she faced in last Wednesday's 2-0 win over UW-Superior. The junior followed that up by recorded her second straight one-save shutout in SMU's 1-0 win over Coe three days later.… Nguyen tallied her first collegiate shutout with a two-save effort against Gustavus on May 2, 2021.
• TOTAL DOMINATION: The Cardinals hold a commanding 41-3 advantage in shots attempted through two games — including a 20-2 edge in shots on goal. Jordyn Matthews (Seattle, Wash.) — who took 10 shots against Coe last Saturday — leads the team with 14 shots, including six on goal.
• ROAD WARRIORS: Last Saturday's game at Coe marked the sixth time  in the last eight contests that the Cardinals played on the road. Saint Mary's is 4-1-1 in its last six road contests.
• 2020 RECAP: The Cardinals closed out their first year under coach Nick Rizzo with a 3-2-1 record during the pandemic-shortened, fall-to-spring 2021 season.
 MARTIN LUTHER KNIGHTS SCOUTING REPORT
• COMING UP EMPTY: The Knights proved to be no match for Bethany Lutheran in the teams' season-opener last Wednesday, as the Vikings blanked MLC 3-0.
• HITTING THE ROAD: Monday's game against Saint Mary's is the first of three straight road games for the Knights, who do not play at home again until Sept. 22, when they host Buena Vista. MLC won just one of its five road contests a year ago.
• TEAM LEADERS: Megan Marohn and Kaitlin Butler accounted for five of MLC's seven shots against Bethany Lutheran last Wednesday. Marohn, Butler and Morgan Spoehr each finished with one shot on goal.
• IN GOAL: Grace Sievert made eight saves against Bethany Lutheran last Wednesday. Sievert appeared in four games a year ago — all in relief — stopping five of the six shots she faced for a 0.98 goals-against-average.
• A YEAR AGO: Martin Luther closed out the pandemic-shortened 2020 season with a 4-6-0 record, and reached the UMAC quarterfinals, falling to Bethany Lutheran 2-1. … After opening the season 0-6-0, MLC rattled off four straight wins, before falling to Bethany Lutheran in the UMAC Tournament.
• PUTTING UP BIG NUMBERS: Martin Luther outscored its opponents 21-1 in its four wins last season — including a season-high 14-goal performance in blanking North Central (Minn.) 14-0. MLC's 14 goals were a school record, and came from nine different players, including four off the foot of Hannah Schroeder
