WINONA, Minn. — The Saint Mary's University men's soccer team played their final home game of the season on Wednesday, but it didn't end the way they had hoped it would..
Â
The chilly night seemed to prevent the Cardinals from finding an offensive spark, as Macalester scored the game's only goal in the first half in dealing Saint Mary's a 1-0 conference setback at Ochrymowycz Field.
Â
The Cardinals held Macalester's potent offensive attack at bay for the majority of the first half, Grant Luce heated things up for the Scots, riling a shot over the outstretched arms of Cardinal goalkeeper
Daniel Sessler (Brookfield, Ill.) in the 35th minute to account for the game's only goal.
Â
The Cardinals refused to let the Scots control the game, however, and seemed to control play over the game's final 45 minutes, but could not find a way to net the equalizer.
Â
Sessler did hit part to keep it a one-goal game, making five second-half saves, including an impressive leaping stop in the 50th minute to keep the Scots from adding to their advantage.Â
Â
Cerim Palislamovic (Jacksonville, Fla.) tallied the Cardinals' lone shot on goal against the Scots, while Sessler totaled seven saves in goal.
Â
The Cardinals (0-8-1 MIAC, 3-11-3 overall) will play their final game of the season in Duluth, Minn. on Saturday, as they face St. Scholastica in a 3:30 p.m. conference contest.
