DULUTH, Minn. — The Saint Mary's University men's soccer team entered Saturday's season finale against St. Scholastica with one mission in mind — end the season on a high note.
Unfortunately for the Cardinals, the Saints were on a similar mission.
St. Scholastica erupted for five goals — including three in the second half — as the Saints dealt the Cardinals a season-ending 5-0 conference setback.
The Saints set the tone early, scoring in the 18th minute on a goal by Finigan Huffington, and CSS would make it 2-0 before the half ended, as Nathan Campbell put one past SMU goalkeeper
Daniel Sessler (Brookfield, Ill.) in the 34th minute.
It was more of the same for the offensive-minded Saints in the second half, scoring three times in a 12-minute span on goals by Clemente Infante, Colin O'Reilly, and Jordan Finneran — to seal the season-ending win.
Sessler closed out the season as the conference's saves leader adding six to his total to end the year with 119 stops. CSS goalkeeper Liam Lothian stopped both shots the Cardinals sent his way.
The Cardinals closed out the 2022 campaign with a 3-10-3 overall record, including an 0-7-1 mark in conference play.
