WINONA, Minn. — Granton Schneider (Moorhead, Minn.) made his inaugural appearance at the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Championships last weekend a memorable one, posting the Cardinals' best individual conference finish in six years.
Â
And Thursday afternoon, the memories continued, as Schneider was among those rewarded for their conference championship efforts, landing Honorable-Mention All-MIAC honors when the league office announced its post-season awards.
Â
Schneider shaved seven seconds off his previous best eight-kilometer time, breaking the tape in 26:21.1 to place 22nd overall at last weekend's MIAC Championships at the Highland Park Golf Course. Schneider is the first Cardinal to pick up post-season conference honors since Jovan Newsum was a First-Team All-MIAC selection after finishing third overall in 2016.
Â
Bati Mohammed of Augsburg, who blew away the rest of the field in winning the individual men's title, was named the MIAC's Men's Cross Country Athlete of the Year, while also being tabbed the MIAC Rookie of the Year. St. Olaf's Brian Power, meanwhile, picked up MIAC Coach of the Year honors, after leading the Oles to their first conference title since 2016 and the 10th in program history.
Â
Schneider and the Cardinals will close out their 2022 regular-season schedule on Nov. 12, when they travel to Northfield, Minn., to take part in the NCAA North Region Championships.
