• 0.3: The Saint Mary’s women’s basketball team dropped a heartbreaking 54-52 decision to Carleton last Monday when the Knights netted the game-winning basket with 0.3 seconds remaining in regulation.
• 0-0: Last Saturday’s 0-0 tie against Bethel marked the second straight season in which the Cardinal women’s hockey team has played to a scoreless draw. SMU and Concordia played 65 minutes without a goal being scored on Nov. 6, 2021. Saint Mary’s has now played to a 0-0 tie four times in program history — twice coming against Concordia, with the other two against Bethel and St. Thomas.
• 2: Josh Janssen (Green Bay, Wis.) had a hand in two of the SMU men’s tennis team’s three wins in its 6-3 nonconference loss to Loras last Saturday. Janssen won 6-2, 7-5 at No. 2 singles, and teamed with Brandon Kurilla (Hastings, Minn.) for an 8-4 victory at No. 1 doubles.
• 2: Jordan Keeley (St. Peter, Minn.) became the second straight player from the Cardinal women’s hockey team to be named a finalist for the Hockey Humanitarian Award, when the HHA Foundation announced its five finalists on Wednesday. Keeley’s teammate, Delaney Wolf (Bismarck, N.D.) was the 2021 HHA award-winner.
• 2: Brady Lindauer (Cary, Ill.) and Nick Kiemel (Colorado Springs, Colo.) accounted for the Saint Mary’s men’s hockey team’s two goals against Bethel last Friday.
• 2: Both of the SMU women’s hockey team’s games against Bethel last weekend went into overtime. Saint Mary’s dropped a 4-3 OT decision to the Royals last Friday, before battling BU to a 0-0 draw the following afternoon.
• 2: Last Monday’s 76-66 loss to Carleton was the second overtime game of the season for the Cardinal men’s basketball team, which also dropped a 79-73 decision to Augustana on Nov. 16. The two overtime games this season were the first since SMU went 2-0 in OT games during the 2019-20 season.
• 2 x 3: it took 22 games, but the Cardinal men’s hockey team finally had their first multiple-goal scorer last Saturday, when Matt Hutton (Carmel, Ind.) scored two of SMU’s four goals in their 4-0 win over Bethel. Saint Mary’s did not have a player score two goals in a game in any of its first 21 contests. Bud Winter (St. Louis, Mo.) and Brady Lindauer (Cary, Ill.) each assisted on two of the Cardinals’ four goals in the 4-0 victory.
• 3, 4, 4, 5: The Cardinal track and field teams had four Top 5 finishes at the Minnesota State-Mankato Maverick Invitational last Friday. The men’s 4x100 relay team collected a third-place finish with a time of 3:39, while the women’s 4x400 relay delivered a fourth with a time of 4:15.66. and, individually, Sean Curran (Appleton, Wis.) added a fourth in the weight throw (16.91 meters) and Carolyn Gearin (Osceola, Wis.) posted a fifth-place time of 1:01.40 in the 400.
• 4-0 x 3: Kennedy Morgan (Green Bay, Wis.), Zoie Becker (St. James, Minn.), and Emily Henderson (Jordan, Minn.) all finished a perfect 4-0 for the SMU women’s tennis team last weekend — winning both of their singles and both of their doubles matches against UW-Superior and Loras.
• 6: Raheem Anthony (Chicago, ill.) picked up his sixth double-double of the season — and the 10th in his collegiate career — in the SMU men’s basketball team’s 89-64 MIAC Playoff loss to St. Olaf last Saturday, scoring 15 points and adding 11 rebounds.
• 8: The Cardinal women’s hockey team’s eight goals in their last four games have come from eight different players — including goals by Jordan Modjeski (South Lyon, Mich.), Morgan Leib (Farmington Hills, Mich.), and Anna Braun (Mantorville, Minn.) against Bethel last Friday.
• 8-1 x 2: The Saint Mary’s women’s tennis team picked up a pair of 8-1 victories in its two nonconference matches last weekend — beating UW-Superior 8-1 last Friday and adding an 8-1 win over Loras the following afternoon.
• 12: The SMU hockey programs recognized 12 graduating seniors, who played their last regular-season home games last weekend — Tyson Liverance (Burford, Ontario), Ryan Stoynich (Calgary, Alberta), Jack Hatton (Naperville, Ill.), Trevor Paradise (Colorado Springs, Colo.), and Trevor Wilhelm (St. Louis, Mo.) from the men’s hockey team, and Avrey Simonson (Waupaca, Wis.), Carson Sheridan (Waunakee, Wis.), Amber Miller (Kasson, Minn.), Jordan Modjeski (South Lyon, Mich.), Delaney Calabrese (West Dundee, Ill.), Rose Kraus (Kasson, Minn.), and Jordan Keeley (St. Peter, Minn.) from the women’s hockey team.
• 13: Thirteen of the Saint Mary’s men’s basketball team’s 26 games were decided by 11 points or less — including a 76-66 overtime loss to Carleton last Monday in which the Knights scored the game-tying basket with six second remaining, and a 65-64 loss to Concordia in which the Cobbers drained the game-winning 3-pointer with less than three seconds on the clock.
• 19: Jordan Keeley (St. Peter, Minn.) stopped all 19 shots she faced in the SMU women’s hockey team’s 0-0 tie against Bethel last Saturday to record her first shutout of the season and third of her collegiate career.
• 22 + 23 = 10: Brooklyn Paulson (Holmen, Wis.) put together a pair of 20+ point performances last week — scoring 22 points in SMU’s 54-52 loss to Carleton last Monday, before adding a 23-point effort in SMU’s 62-57 loss to St. Olaf in the MIAC Playoffs five days later. Paulson closed out the season netting 20 or more points in a game 10 times.
• 23: Noah Frechette (Lakeville, Minn.) scored a team-high 23 points — one point shy of his career-best — in the SMU men’s basketball team’s regular season-ending 76-66 overtime loss to Carleton last Monday.
• 31: Matt Sankner (Pennington, N.J.) stopped all 31 shots he faced in the Cardinal men’s hockey team’s 4-0 win over Bethel last Saturday en route to his first collegiate shutout. The 31-save effort marked the fifth time this season the freshman goalie has stopped 30 or more shots in a game.
• 57: The Cardinal men’s hockey team recorded a season-high 57 shots on goal in their 3-2 loss to Bethel last Friday. The 57 shots on goal were not only a season high, but also the most since SMU recorded 61 SOG against Northland on Nov. 21, 2006.
• 183, 603: The Cardinal women’s basketball team tied the school record for most 3-pointers in a season with 183, joining the 2003-04 at the top of the list. SMU’s 603 3-point attempts, meanwhile, shattered the old mark of 561, set during the 2017-18 season.
