ST. PAUL, Minn. — With one week remaining until the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Outdoor Championships, the Saint Mary's University track and field teams were looking to get in a little "fine-tuning" when they took to the track for Wednesday evenings Tommie Twilight.
And fine-tune they did.
Led by the efforts of
Caroline Gearin (Osceola, Wis.), Frankie Bakalars (La Crosse, Wis.), and Sean Curran (Appleton, Wis.), the Cardinals put together 21 Top 10 performances Wednesday evening during the non-team-scored event at the University of St. Thomas.
Gearin picked up a third-place showing in the pole vault (3.35 meters) and a fourth in the 400 (1:0.86), while Bakalars and Curran chipped in fifth-place efforts — Bakalars in the hammer throw (50.87 meters) and Curran in the discus (40.69m) — while Curran also delivered an eighth in the hammer (44.48m).
The Cardinal women also got sixth-place performances from
Abrianna Utgaard (Star Prairie, Wis.) in the 400 (1:02.30), Lily Maul (Madelia, Minn.) in the 100 (13.38),
Sydney Klausler (Lakeville, Minn.) in the long jump (4.88m), and
Anna Becker (Cannon Falls, Minn.) in the javelin (23.24m), while
Samantha Kubes (New Prague, Minn.) chipped in a seventh in the hammer (41.06m) and an eighth in shot put (11.17m), and
Morgan Wallendal (Fond du Lac, Wis.) posted a ninth in discus (34.66m)
Chris Bulwa (Glenview, Ill.) picked up seventh-place finishes in both the triple jump (12.38m) and the 200 (23.58) for the Cardinal men, who also got sevenths from Quinn Steinbrecher (Holmen, Wis.) in the 1,500 (4:18.89), and Oliver Adamson (Rochester, Minn.) in the 400 (50.58) Brady Johnson (Elburn, Ill.) chipped in a pair of eighth-place performances in the triple jump (12.01m) and 200 (23.94), with Dan Cooper (Belle Plaine, Minn.) placing eighth in long jump (6.31m) and 10th in 100 (11.46), and Isaiah Brindamour (Hinckley, Minn.) and Coleton Strupp () collected a ninths in the 800 (2:00.30) and pole vault (3.65m), respectively.
Several of the Cardinals will be right back on the track on Friday, taking part in the Hamline Invitational in St. Paul, Minn., before both teams take part in the MIAC Outdoor Championships — hosted by Saint Mary's — on May 13-14.
