• THROWING UP ZEOES: With their 3-0 win over UM-Morris last Thursday and a 2-0 victory over Lawrence three days later, the Cardinals have now opened the season with a back-to-back shutout wins in each of the last two seasons.
• CAREER FIRSTS: The goals by Ella Lahart (Sherwood, Ore.) and Lauryn Skoruppa (Littleton, Colo.) against UM-Morris last Thursday were both collegiate firsts. • POINT PRODUCER: Along with her goal, Falkman has also assisted on two of SMU’s other four goals to lead the team with four points, one more than McKinney and Skoruppa.
• BETWEEN THE PIPES: Alexis Nguyen (West Corvina, Calif.) — the reigning MIAC Defensive Player of the Year — did not have to make a save en route to her first shutout of the season against UM-Morris last Thursday, before adding a two-save shutout against Lawrence three days later. Nguyen, who recorded eight shutouts a year ago, has now collected 11 shutouts in her four-year collegiate career.

That 1991 team went on to finish 14-4-0 and earned a berth in the NCAA Tournament, falling to UC-San Diego in the opening round. … The Cardinals also opened the 1988 season 11-1-0 — it’s the best 12-game start in program history.

Games that are deadlocked following the scheduled 90 minute will go in the books as ties. Once in post-season, if a game is tied following regulation, there will be two, 10-minute overtime periods — with no golden goal — followed by a shootout if the game is still tied.
