It was the second time this season SMU has played to a scoreless stalemate, marking the first time since the 2015 season — when SMU played to scoreless ties against Bethel and Gustavus in a three-day span — that the Cardinals have had two 0-0 results in the same season.
• 2: Daniel Sessler (Brookfield, Ill.) of the SMU men’s soccer team picked up his second MIAC Defensive Player of the Week honor last Monday, after stopping 27 of the 28 shots he faced in a 1-0 win over No. 23 Gustavus and a 1-1 tie against Bethel.
• 3: The Cardinal volleyball team posted three double-doubles in their three matches at the Tiffany Robinson Memorial Tournament last weekend. Ciarra McNally (Lewiston, Minn.) delivered kill-dig double-doubles of 15 & 10 against Augustana (Ill.) and 17 & 10 against Crown, while Faith VanErp (Sartell, Minn.) chipped in a 45-set, 15-dig showing against Crown.
• 4: Daniel Sessler (Brookfield, Ill.) stopped all eight shots he faced in recording his fourth shutout of the season in the Saint Mary’s men’s soccer team’s 0-0 conference stalemate against St. Scholastica last Saturday.
• 4: With last Saturday’s 0-0 stalemate against St. Scholastica, the Saint Mary’s men’s soccer team owns four ties this season — the most since 1994, when SMU played to six deadlocks in finishing 4-7-6 overall.
• 5: The Saint Mary’s volleyball team set a new program record, holding Crown to just 5 first-set points in the Cardinals’ 3-0 win over the Polars last Saturday. All told, SMU held Crown to just 26 combined points in the three-set match.
• 6: Ella Lahart (Shorewood, Ore.) scored just 4:30 into the first half in the SMU women’s soccer team’s 1-1 tie against St. Scholastica last Saturday. It was the sixth time this season the Cardinals have scored a goal before the eight-minute mark.
• 9: Nine of the 12 competitors for the Saint Mary’s cross country teams posted season-best performances at last Saturday’s Augustana (Ill.) Inter-Regional Invitational.
• 15, 10: Ciarra McNally (Lewiston, Minn.) led the way for the Cardinal volleyball team in its 3-0 loss to Augustana last Friday at the Tiffany Robinson Memorial Tournament, recording a double-double of 15 kills and added 10 digs.
• 23: Last Wednesday’s 6-0 loss to St. Olaf was the second time this season the Cardinal men’s soccer team had squared off against a team ranked No. 23 in the latest United Soccer Coaches Top 25, having knocked off then-No. 23 Gustavus 1-0 on Oct. 3 — marking the first time in program history SMU had beaten a nationally ranked team.
• 25: 35: Kendra Klobe (Glencoe, Minn.) stopped the clock in a season-best 6K time of 25:35 to pace the SMU women’s cross country team at the Augustana (Ill.) Inter-Regional last Saturday. It was the first time this season the sophomore was the first Cardinal across the finish line.
• 26:46: Grant Schneider (Moorhead, Minn.) posted a season-best 8K time of 26:46 for the SMU men’s cross country team at last Saturday’s Augustana (Ill.) Inter-Regional Invitational.
• 45: Faith VanErp recorded 45 assists in the SMU volleyball team’s 3-0 sweep of Crown last Saturday at the Tiffany Robinson Memorial Tournament. It was the seventh time this season the junior has recorded 40 or more helpers in a match.
