WINONA, Minn. — The Saint Mary's University women's soccer team seems to be playing like a broken record — and it's a tune head coach
Nick Rizzo never gets tired of.
Â
Fresh off a 2-0 win over Bethel on Saturday — SMU's sixth shutout victory of the season — the Cardinals put up another goose egg in their final nonconference game of the season, blanking Grinnell 1-0 Sunday afternoon.
Â
Dakota Leonard (Lincolnshire, Ill.) netted the game's only goal — and
Anna Peckosh (Cedar Rapids, Iowa) and
Megan Nadal (Chino, Calif.) combined on a seven-save shutout — as the Cardinals won their second straight and pushed their unbeaten streak to four (3-0-1).
Â
With the win, the Cardinals have not allowed a goal during its current four-game unbeaten streak — and have yet to surrender a goal in any of their seven victories this season. Along with Sunday's victory, SMU has also blanked UMN Morris (W, 6-0), Beloit (W, 1-0), Lawrence (W, 1-0), UW-Stout (W, 1-0), Concordia (W, 1-0), and Bethel (W, 2-0).
Â
Leonard got the Cardinals on the board in 33rd minute, netting her third goal of the season — moving the junior into a tie for the team lead — while
Kaelyn Clasen (Kent, Wash.) recording her first collegiate assist.
Â
Peckosh finished with three saves in 48:00 minutes of work, with Nadal stopping all four shots she faced in 42:00 minutes of relief.
Â
The Cardinals (2-4-0 MIAC, 7-5-1 overall) are right back in action on Tuesday, playing their fourth game in a four-day span when they head to Northfield, Minn., for a 4 p.m. conference game against St. Olaf.
