SAINT MARY’S CARDINALS SCOUTING REPORT
• LAST TIME OUT: The Cardinals recorded 21 Top 10 finishes — including first-place efforts from Samantha Kubes (New Prague, Minn.), Emily Kern (Buffalo, Minn.), Chris Bulwa (Glenview, Ill.), and Aiden Gatz (Elburn, Ill.) — at the Luther Invitational last Saturday.
• LUTHER INVITE: Kern stopped the clock in 5:32.48 in winning the mile, while Kubes delivered tosses of 14.34 in winning the weight throw and 12.45 to place second in the shot put. Caroline Gearin (Osceola, Wis.) chipped in the pole vault (2.90m) and Morgan Wallendal (Fond du Lac, Wis.) collected a third in the weight throw (13.32m). On the men’s side, Gatz cleared 3.81 meters in winning the pole vault and Bulwa crossed the tape in 22.98 to take home the 200 title, while adding a leap of 6.06 meters to place third in the long jump. Granton Schneider (Moorhead, Minn. / 1,000, 2:38.48), Isaiah Brindamour (Hinckley, Minn. / 600, 1:29.51), and the 4x200 relay team also recorded third-place efforts.
• ST. OLAF INVITE: Kubes uncorked a toss of 14.21 meters to win the weight throw, and added a third-place toss of 12.97 meters in the shot put, while Kern crossed the tape with a winning time of 18:55.48 in the 5,000. The men's 4x200 — Ben Kritsberg (Rosemount, Minn.), Antonio Cisewski (Custer, Wis.), Chris Bulwa (Glenview, Ill.), and Oliver Adamson (Rochester, Minn.) — meanwhile, posted a time of 1:33.34 to take home first-place honors. Other Top 5 efforts included a second from Caroline Gearin (Osceola, Wis.) in the pole vault (2.90m), a third by Aiden Gatz (Elburn, Ill.) in the pole vault (3.95m), and a fourth by Brady Johnson (Elburn, Ill.) in the triple jump (12.02m) | Recap
• UW-L INVITE: Kubes delivered a mark of 11.14 meters to place sixth in the shot put, and added a seventh in the weight throw with a toss of 13.3 meters. Kern, meanwhile, stopped the clock in 11:09.69 to place sixth in the 3,000. Morgan Wallendal (Fond du Lac, Wis.) chipped in 10th-place performance in the weight throw (12.65m), and Megan Frosch (Oconomowoc, Wis.) raced to a 10th in the 800 (2:44.42). On the men’s side, Gatz kicked off his season with a ninth-place showing, clearing 3.88 meters, while Bulwa stopped the clock in 51.66 to place ninth in the 400. • 2022 MIAC HIGHLIGHTS: The Cardinals delivered a combined 11 First-Team All-MIAC performances at the conference’s indoor and outdoor championships in 2022. Aidan Gatz (Elburn, Ill., pole vault), Sydney Klausler (Lakeville, Minn. / long jump), Sean Curran (Appleton, Wis., weight throw), and Caroline Gearin (Osceola, Wis. / pole vault) earned All-MIAC indoor honors, while Curran (weight throw), Gatz (pole vault), Anna Swanson (Osceola, Wis. / javelin), Frankie Bakalars (La Crosse, Wis. / weight throw), Nathalie Freire (Bloomington, Minn. / pole vault), Matthew Stack (Brooklyn Park, Minn. / pole vault), and the women’s 4x400 relay picked up outdoor All-MIAC honors
