SAINT MARY’S CARDINALS SCOUTING REPORT:
• FOR THE RECORD: The Cardinals head into their four matches at the Loras Invitational sitting at 6-3 overall.
• LAST ACTION: Saint Mary’s split its two matches on Tuesday at the SMU Gym, dropping a 3-2 marathon to UW-La Crosse, before rebounding with a 63-minute, 3-0 win over Luther later in the evening.
• SWEEPING UP: Five of Saint Mary’s nine matches this season have been decided by 3-0 sweeps — the lone exceptions, the Cardinals’ 3-2 wins over UMN Morris and Northland, a 3-1 SMU win over Bethany Lutheran, and a 3-2 loss to UW-La Crosse.
• ON THE ATTACK: Ciarra McNally (Lewiston, Minn.) picked up a team-high 27 kills in SMU’s two matches on Tuesday, giving the senior a team-high 145 kills through nine matches. … Kali Olson (New York Mills, Minn.) is sitting second on the team with 78 kills, followed by Jazzy Davis (La Crosse, Wis.) with 56 and Breanna Bruchert () with 58. … As a team, Saint Mary’s has amassed 387 kills and is hitting .182. … McNally ended the 2022 season leading the team with 346 kills, leaving her second in the MIAC.
• DOUBLE DIGITS: McNally has recorded at least 10 kills in all nine of the Cardinals’ matches this season, including a season-high 24 against UMN Morris on Sept. 2.
• HITTING 20 x 2: Saint Mary’s boasted two players with 20+ kills in its 3-2 win over UMN Morris on Sept. 2 — McNally led the charge with 24 and Olson chipped in 21.
• CAREER BESTS: The Cardinals have had two players post career-highs of 10 or more kills this season. Olson recorded a career-best 21 kills against UMN Morris on Sept. 2, while Davis tallied a career-high 11 vs. UW-La Crosse last Tuesday, and Baker recorded 10 vs. Lawrence on Sept. 1.
• GIVING AN ASSIST: VanErp has accounted for 309 of the Cardinals’ 348 assists this season, including a new single-match career high of 50 against Northland last Saturday. … VanErp has delivered at least 24 helpers in all nine matches this season, including 30 or more helpers four times. … VanErp’s 50 assists were the most since Lillian Braun recorded a 53-assist performance against Coe on Sept. 27, 2019.
• DOUBLING UP: McNally, who led the team with 14 double-doubles in 2022, has recorded four kill-dig double-doubles this season, while VanErp has notched the first three set-dig double-doubles of her collegiate career.
• DIGGING IT: Lindsey Rossow (Rochester, Minn.) leads the Cardinals in digs with 137 digs, followed by McNally (97), VanErp (70), and Alison Wu (Woodbury, Minn. / 72). … SMU has had three players notch career-highs in digs this season — Rossow posted a career-high 30 digs against UMN Morris on Sept. 2, Wu posted a career-best 12 digs against Marian on Sept. 1, and VanErp’s 12 digs against Bethany Lutheran last Saturday were also a career-high.
• SERVING UP ACES: Along with her team-leading 309 assists, VanErp also leads the team with 19 service aces, eight more than Rossow, with Devann Clemens (Chatfield, Minn.) sitting third with nine. … As a team, Saint Mary’s owns 64 aces through nine matches. … Saint Mary’s recorded a season-high eight aces against Marian on Sept. 1.
• WEEKLY HONOR: Faith VanErp (Sartell, Minn.) was named MIAC Specialty Player of the Week on Sept. 6, after racking up racking up 136 assists, two assist-dig double-doubles and eight service aces in SMU’s four Sugar Loaf Classic matches.
• CRUNCHING THE NUMBERS: SMU boasts 387 kills (11.38 kps), 348 assists, 64 aces, 519 digs, and 59 blocks in nine matches. … The Cardinals recorded a single-match season-high 56 kills against UMN Morris on Sept. 2, while also setting season-highs in assists (51), and digs (88) against the Cougars. … SMU is 6-3 in the first set this season, while going 3-1 in the fourth. … Saint Mary’s has now played three matches extended to a fifth set, going 2-1 in those three.
COE SCOUTING REPORT:
• FOR THE RECORD: The Kohawks head into the weekend’s matches at the Loras Invitational sitting at 3-4 overall.
• LAST ACTION: Coe forced a fifth set with a 25-20 win the fourth set of its nonconference match against Cornell last Wednesday, but could not complete in the come-from-behind win, falling in the fifth set 15-10.
• ROAD WARRIORS: Coe is in the midst of playing eight consecutive matches on the road. The Kohawks, who are 1-2 at home and 2-2 away from Kohawk Arena, do not play another home match until hosting Wartburg on Sept. 29.
• LIMPING IN: After opening the season with three wins in their first four matches, Coe has dropped three straight — including a pair of 3-2 setbacks.
• FACING THE MIAC: Friday’s matchup against Saint Mary’s is the second of four matches against teams from the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. Coe has already beaten Bethel (3-0) and will face Saint Mary’s, St. Olaf and Gustavus this weekend.
• ON THE ATTACK: The Kohawks boast four players with 40 or more kills through seven matches, led by Maggie Furlong and Grace Lueken with 62 kills each. Madi Parson is sitting third on the squad, just two kills back, while Gracie Urbatsch has chipped in 43. … Lueken has posted 10+ kills a team-high four times, while Furlong has delivered 10+ kills twice. … Parson posted the team’s single-match season-high with a 20-kill effort against Augustana (Ill.) on Sept. 8. … Furlong owns two of Coe’s three kill-dig double-doubles, with Parsons tallying the other.
• GIVING AN ASSIST: Maddy Maahs has accounted for 255 of the team’s 294 assists through seven matches. … Maahs has recorded 20 or more assists in six of the team’s seven contests, including two matches with more than 40 helpers. Maahs delivered 45 assists against Cornell last Wednesday, and tallied a season-high 56-assist showing against Augustana (Ill.) on Sept. 8. … Maahs has posted three assist-dig double-doubles.
• DIGGING IT: Hanna Pizzolato and Parson have already eclipsed the 100-dig marker this season, with Pizzolato leading the charge with 112 digs, followed by Parson with 101. Maahs is sitting third on the team with 80. … Maahs has reached double figures in digs in six of the Kohawks’ seven matches, including a pair of season-high 21-dig performances against both Concordia (Wis.) and Northwestern (Minn.)
• SERVING UP ACES: Coe has served up 39 aces this season, led by Parson with eight, and Maahs and Pizzolato with six each.
• BY THE NUMBERS: Two of Coe’s three wins this season have been via 3-0 sweeps. The Kohawks are 3-1 in three-set matches, while going 1-1 in four-setters and 0-2 in matches that goes the maximum five sets.
LORAS SCOUTING REPORT:
• FOR THE RECORD: The Duhawks head into tournament play this weekend sitting at 3-5 overall.
• LAST ACTION: Loras is coming off a 1-3 showing during its west coast trip to Oregon. The Duhawks opened with a 3-0 win over Linfield, but promptly lost its next three, falling to Pacific U. (3-1), Willamette (3-0), and George Fox (3-0).
• ROAD WARRIORS: Loras has played just one of its first eight matches at home, falling to UW-Platteville 3-0 on Sept. 5. Starting this weekend, the Duhawks will be five consecutive matches on their home court.
• FACING THE MIAC: Friday’s match against Saint Mary’s is the first of three straight matches against teams from the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. Loras will also face Gustavus and St. Scholastica during their home tournament this weekend.

• GIVING AN ASSIST: Hoskins has accounted for 217 of the team’s 261 assists through eight matches. … Hoskins has dished out at least 10 helpers in all eight contests – including four matches of 30+ assists. … Hoskins posted 37 assists against Pacific last Saturday, while delivering a season-best 39-assist effort against Benedictine on Sept. 1. … Hoskins has recorded four assist-dig double-doubles through eight matches this season.
• DIGGING IT: Jenna Bistline has already cracked the 100-dig mark this season, leading the Duhawks with 101 digs. Hoskins (80), Gina DeVoe (52), and Jarzabek (51) have also delivered 50+ digs through eight matches.
• SERVING UP ACES: Loras has served up 59 aces this season, and has gotten at least one ace from nine of its 12 players. … Hoskins leads the way for the Duhawks, recording 16 aces, followed by Cat Meyer with nine, and Bistline, Finch, and Younkin with seven each.

• LAST ACTION: Monmouth came up empty in its three matches at the North Central Invitational, falling to Nebraska Wesleyan (3-0), Greenville (3-1), and North Central (3-1).
• ROAD WARRIORS: Monmouth has yet to play a home match this season. The Scots are in the midst of opening the year with 11 consecutive road matches. Monmouth will open the home portion of its schedule with back-to-back matches against Blackburn (Sept. 19) and Webster (Sept. 22).
• STREAKING: Monmouth snapped a season-opening two-match losing streak with a 3-0 win over Crown on Sept. 2, but has since dropped four straight.

• FOR THE RECORD: The Spartans enter tournament play this weekend sporting a 6-3 overall record.
• LAST ACTION: Dubuque rallied from a 2-1 deficit to force a fifth and deciding set with a 25-16 Set 4 win, but nationally ranked UW-Platteville had the upper hand in the final set, completing the 3-2 win with a 15-9 triumph.
• ROAD WARRIORS: The Spartans are in the midst of playing 15 of their first 16 matches on the road — the lone exception, last Tuesday’s 3-2 home loss to UW-Platteville. UD finally returns home on Sept. 29 for a matchup against Carroll.
• ON THE ATTACK: Emma Powell has been a kill machine for the Spartans this season, amassing 164 kills in the team’s first nine matches (4.32 kps). Ashlee Adler is closing in on the 100-kill mark, sitting at 95, followed by Alexis Bedier (81), and Payton Uptagraft (45). … Powell has recorded 15 or more kills in all nine matches this season — including a season-high 23 kills against both Martin Luther and Cornell — and boasts a kill-dig double-double in all nine contests. … Adler has chipped in five kill-dig double-doubles.
