SAINT MARY’S SCOUTING REPORT:
• FOR THE RECORD: The Cardinals head into their conference showdown at Augsburg on Saturday sporting a 3-2-0 record through five games.
• LAST TIME OUT: St. Catherine — MIAC Playoff champions and NCAA Tournament qualifiers a year ago — scored solo goals in each half in dealing the Cardinals a 2-0 setback in the teams’ conference-opener Wednesday at Ochrymowycz Field.
• FAST STARTS: The Cardinals have scored a goal before the eight-minute mark in four of their first five games this season. Genesis Capacio (Las Vegas, Nev.) scored at 7:09 against UMN Morris on Sept. 1, Laura Ashe (Beaverton, Ore.) needed just 2:55 to put SMU out front against Wartburg on Sept. 3, Ella Lahart (Sherwood, Ore.) found the back of the net 7:52 into the first half against Beloit on Sept. 5, and Samantha Munson (Plain City, Utah) scored at 2:19 of the first half vs. Lawrence four days later.
• HOME SWEET HOME: The Cardinals went 6-1-2 in their eight home games last season and are 11-4-4 in their last 19 home games.
• THROWING UP ZEROS: Eighteen of Saint Mary’s last 24 games have been decided by shutout — including 12 of SMU’s last 14 wins. … All three of SMU’s victories this season have been by shutout — 6-0 over UMN Morris, and 1-0 over both Beloit and Lawrence.
• SPREADING THE WEALTH: Saint Mary’s nine goals this season have come from eight different players, led by Munson, who has netted a team-best two goals. Capacio, Lahart, Ashe, Lauryn Skoruppa (Littleton, Colo.), Brooklyn McKinney (Thornton, Colo.), Hannah Bradley (Portland, Ore.), and Dakota Leonard (Lincolnshire, Ill.) own SMU’s other seven goals.
• CAREER FIRSTS: Bradley netted her first collegiate goal in SMU’s 6-0 win over UMN Morris on Sept. 1, while Ashe’s first-half tally against Wartburg two days later was her first as a Cardinal. Saint Mary’s had five players record their first collegiate goals a year ago.
• CAREER FIRST II: Munson collected her first collegiate multiple-point game, scoring once and assisting on two others for a four-point effort in SMU’s 6-0 win over UMN Morris on Sept. 1.
• LENDING A HAND: Munson owns the team lead in assists with three, one more than Peyton Maier (Elk River, Minn.), while Lahart, Ashe, McKinney, Leonard, and Anna Warneke (Maple Grove, Minn.) have all collected one helper..
• POINT PRODUCER: Samantha Munson sits atop the team’s points race with five, followed by Ashe and Leonard with three, and McKinney, Bradley, Skoruppa, Lahart, and Capacio with two each…. Falkman closed out 2022 with a team-best 13 points (5 G, 3 A).
• BETWEEN THE PIPES: Anna Peckosh (Cedar Rapids, Iowa) has started four of the Cardinals’ first five games in goal, compiling a 1.11 goals-against-average and a .778 save percentage. McKenzie Munson (Plain City, Utah) owns SMU’s other start, a one-save shutout on Sept. 5, while Megan Nadal (Chino, Calif.) has made one save in 36:13 minutes of work. … Peckosh has made 14 saves in four games. …
• GOALKEEPING FIRSTS: McKenzie Munson (Plain City, Utah) recorded her first collegiate win and first career shutout — in her first collegiate start, a 1-0 win over Beloit on Sept. 5. … Peckosh stopped a career-high eight shots in racking up career shutout No. 1 against UW-Stevens Point on Oct. 16, 2022. … Peckosh made her first collegiate start against UW-Stout on Oct. 5, 2022, stopping both Blue Devil shots she faced in 45:00 of play, while making her first appearance in a Cardinal uniform on Sept. 17, 2022, making three saves in 22 minutes of relief in SMU’s 3-0 loss to Saint Benedict. … Nadal made her first collegiate start on Sept. 21, 2022 against Luther, stopping seven first-half shots.
• CRUNCHING THE NUMBERS: With their three second-half goals against UMN Morris on Sept. 1, Saint Mary’s has now netted 18 of its last 22 goals in the second half. … Saint Mary’s has allowed just four goals in five games — three of which have come in the second half. … SMU’s six goals against the Cougars on Sept. 1 are the most since SMU poured in 11 goals against Martin Luther on Sept. 6, 2021. … Saint Mary’s holds an 86-50 advantage in shots, including a 44-20 edge in shots on goal through five games.
AUGSBURG AUGGIES SCOUTING REPORT:
• FOR THE RECORD: The Auggies head into their second conference game of the week sitting at 3-0-1 overall, including a 0-0-1 mark in MIAC play.
• LAST TIME OUT: Augsburg outshot host Hamline 10-6 — including 3-2 in shots on goal — but neither team could find the back of the net, as the Auggies and Pipers battled to a 0-0 draw in the teams’ MIAC opener Tuesday in St. Paul, Minn.
• HOME SWEET HOME: Saturday’s game against Saint Mary’s is the first of back-to-back home games for the Auggies, who have played three of their first five games on their home turf, sporting a percent 3-0-0 mark.
• NEAR-PERFECT START: Augsburg comes into Saturday’s showdown with Saint Mary’s riding a five-game unbeaten streak (4-0-1). The Auggies had their season-opening four-game winning streak snapped with Tuesday’s 0-0 draw with Hamline.
• HIGH OCTANE OFFENSE: The Auggies head into their MIAC matchup against Saint Mary’s having scored 15 goals — including 3+ goals in all four of their wins. On the flip side, Augsburg has allowed just three goals in five contests, two coming in a 3-2 win over Bethany Lutheran on Sept. 9.

• POINT PRODUCTION: Augsburg already has two players — Ponce and Alva Rosa — who have reached double digits in points. Ponce leads the way with 11 points (3 G, 5 A), with Alva Rosa one point behind (3 G, 4 A). Nachreiner is third on the points list with eight (4 G).
• BETWEEN THE PIPES: Iz Shuster has started all five games in goal for the Auggies — and has yet to allow a goal, boasting a 0.00 goals-against-average and 1.000 save percentage. … Tess Enlow has appeared in three games (135:00 minutes), putting together a 2.00 GAA and .625 save %. … Shuster has stopped all seven shots she’s faced, while Enlow has made five saves. … Shuster made a season-high three saves against UW-Superior on Sept. 6.
