BELOIT, Wis. —
Ella Lahart (Sherwood, Ore.) could not have picked a better time to net her first goal of the season
Lahart scored the game's only goal early in the first half, and the smothering Cardinal defense made it stand up, as the SMU women's soccer team blanked Beloit 1-0 in a nonconference matchup Tuesday afternoon.
The Cardinals, who improved to 2-1-0 overall with their second shutout win of the season, did not wait long to take the upper hand, scoring at 7:53 of the opening half, when Lahart took a feed from
Samantha Munson (Plain City, Utah) and beat Beloit goalkeeper Briana Arteaga with what proved to be the game's only goal.
And one goal is all the Cardinals would need, thanks to a shut-down defensive performance that limited the Buccaneers to five shot attempts — including their lone shot on goal, a second-half attempt that was easily stopped by Cardinal goalkeeper
McKenzie Munson (Plain City, Utah), who picked up the one-save shutout in her first collegiate start.
The Cardinals (2-1-0 overall) are back in action this weekend, when they travel to Appleton, Wis., for a 3 p.m. nonconference game against Lawrence on Saturday, before returning home to Ochrymowycz Field for a 3:30 p.m. matchup against UW-Stevens Point the following afternoon.
