SAINT MARY’S SCOUTING REPORT:
• FOR THE RECORD: The Cardinals head into their nonconference game against Beloit sporting a 1-1-0 record through two games — having opened with a 6-0 win over UMN Morris, before dropping a 2-1 decision to Wartburg.
• LAST TIME OUT: Lauren Ashe (Beaverton, Ore.) scored before the game was even three minutes old, but Wartburg answered with two goals in the final two minutes of the first half in dealing the Cardinals a 2-1 nonconference setback last Sunday.
• HOME SWEET HOME: The Cardinals went 6-1-2 in their eight home games last season and are 11-3-4 in their last 18 home games.
• SPREADING THE WEALTH: Saint Mary’s seven goals this season have come from seven different players. Genesis Capacio (Las Vegas, Nev.), Lauryn Skoruppa (Littleton, Colo.), Samantha Munson (Plain City, Utah), Brooklyn McKinney (Thornton, Colo.), Hannah Bradley (Portland, Ore.), and Dakota Leonard (Lincolnshire, Ill.) all found the back of the net in last Friday’s 6-0 win over UMN Morris, while Ashe collected SMU’s lone goal in its 2-1 loss to Wartburg two days later.
• CAREER FIRSTS: Bradley netted her first collegiate goal in last Friday’s 6-0 win over UMN Morris, while Ashe’s first-half tally against Wartburg last Sunday was her first as a Cardinals. Saint Mary’s had five players record their first collegiate goals a year ago.
• CAREER FIRST II: Munson collected her first collegiate multiple-point game, scoring once and assisting on two others for a four-point effort in SMU’s 6-0 win over UMN Morris last Friday.
• LEADER OF THE PACK: Seven players share the team lead in goals with one each. Haddy Falkman (Waconia, Minn.) closed out 2022 leading the team in goals with five, one more than McKinney.
• LENDING A HAND: Munson and Peyton Maier (Elk River, Minn.) own the team lead with two assists each, one more than Leonard, Ashe, Anna Warneke (Maple Grove, Minn.), and Ella Lahart (Shorewood, Ore.).
• POINT PRODUCER: Munson sits atop the team’s points race with four, followed by Ashe and Leonard with three, and McKinney, Bradley, Skoruppa, and Capacio with two each…. Falkman closed out 2022 with a team-best 13 points (5 G, 3 A).
• BETWEEN THE PIPES: Anna Peckosh (Cedar Rapids, Iowa) did not have to face a shot in 56 minutes of work against UMN Morris last Friday, while Megan Nadal (Chino, Calif.) stopped the lone shot she faced in 34 minutes of relief. … Peckosh heads into SMU’s matchup against Beloit with a 1.25 goals-against-average and .667 save percentage in two starts. … Peckosh has made four saves through two games.
• GOALKEEPING FIRSTS: Peckosh stopped a career-high eight shots in racking up career shutout No. 1 against UW-Stevens Point on Oct. 16, 2022. … Peckosh made her first collegiate start against UW-Stout on Oct. 5, 2022, stopping both Blue Devil shots she faced in 45:00 of play, while making her first appearance in a Cardinal uniform on Sept. 17, 2022, making three saves in 22 minutes of relief in SMU’s 3-0 loss to Saint Benedict. … Nadal made her first collegiate start on Sept. 21, 2022 against Luther, stopping seven first-half shots.
• THROWING UP ZEROS: Fifteen of Saint Mary’s last 21 games have been decided by shutout — including 10 of SMU’s last 12 wins.
• CRUNCHING THE NUMBERS: With their three second-half goals against UMN Morris last Friday, Saint Mary’s has now netted 18 of its last 20 goals in the second half. … SMU’s six goals against the Cougars last Friday are the most since SMU poured in 11 goals against Martin Luther on Sept. 6, 2021. … Saint Mary’s holds a 26-7 advantage in shots on goal through two games.
BELOIT BUCCANEERS SCOUTING REPORT:
• FOR THE RECORD: Beloit enters its nonconference game against Saint Mary’s sitting at 1-1-0 on the season, having opened with a 2-0 loss to Carroll last Friday, before bouncing back with a 3-0 win over Benedictine two days later.
• LAST TIME OUT: After being held scoreless in their season-opener, the Buccaneers turned up the offensive heat on Sunday, cruising to a 3-0 win over Benedictine in Beloit, Wis.
• TOUGH STRETCH: Tuesday’s game against Saint Mary’s is the third of four games in a six-day span for the Buccaneers, who already played Carroll on Sept. 1 and Benedictine on Sept. 3, and will head to Carthage on Wednesday.
• HOME SWEET HOME: Tuesday’s game against Saint Mary’s is the second straight home game for the Buccaneers. Beloit lost just once in seven contests at Strong Athletic Soccer Complex a year ago, sporting a 4-1-2 home record.
• THROWING UP ZEROS: With their 2-0 loss and 3-0 win this season, Beloit has now played just one game over the past 18 games that was not decided by a shutout. The Buccaneers posted nine shutout wins a year ago, while all five of their losses also came via shutout. Beloit’s three ties were 0-0 draw against Carthage and Grinnell, and a 1-1 stalemate vs. Carroll. … Seven of Beloit’s 16 games were 1-0 decisions, with the Buccaneers finishing 4-3 in those seven contests.
