PLATTEVILLE, Wis. — They have excelled in Minnesota and Iowa already this season, so it was only fitting that the Saint Mary's University track and field teams took their talents into Wisconsin Saturday.
Â
And excelled once again.
Â
Saint Mary's added 10 Top 10 performances at the UW-Platteville Invitational — including first-place efforts from
Kendra Klobe in the 5,000 and the men's 4x400 relay.
Â
Several Cardinals kicked off the weekend Friday, taking part in the predominantly-NCAA Division II MSU-Mankato Maverick Premier, with
Brady Johnson leading the way, placing fifth in the men's triple jump with a leap of 12.85 meters, while
Chris Bulwa raced to an eighth-place finish in the men's 200 (22.42) and
Sydney Jackman delivered a throw of 12.14 meters to place ninth in the women's shot put.
Â
Which most certainly set the tone for the Cardinals heading into Saturday's UW-Platteville Invitational.
Â
Klobe won the three-person 5,000 meters, stopping the clock in 20:52.78 to lead the way for the Cardinal women, while Kubes followed up her 14th-place effort in Friday's shot put, with a second in the weight throw Saturday with a throw of 14.69m.
Â
Kubes added a 12th in the weight throw with a mark of 14.89 meters, with Megan Wallendal finished 14th in the women's shot put (11.40m) and
Casen Fritz adding a 15th in men's weight throw with a toss of 14.57m.
Â
Megan Frosch chipped in a fourth-place effort in the mile for the SMU women, stopping the clock in 5:54.01, with
Caeli McMahon delivering a fifth in the mile (5:54.53) and an eighth in the 800 (2:42.76).
Abbie Meyer was also a double Top 10 performer, placing eighth in the 400 (1:10.16) and ninth in the 800 (2:42.97).
Â
Samantha Munson posted a time of 8.26 to place sixth in the 60, with
Morgan Wallendal posting a mark of 13.51m to finish eight in the weight throw.
Â
On the men's side,
Oliver Adamson,
Chris Bulwa,
Brady Johnson, and
Eddie Paton took home top honors in the 4x400 relay, posting a winning time of 3:32.06, while Fritz chipped in a 13th-place showing of 14.18 meters in the weight throw and
Dan Cooper placed 13th in the long jump (5.92m).
Â
The Cardinals are back on the road next Friday, returning to Mankato, Minn., for one final meet before the MIAC Indoor Championships, taking part in the MSU-Mankato Maverick Invitational.
