DAVENPORT, Fla. — The Saint Mary's University baseball team has made a habit of late-game comebacks during their spring trip.
Â
And for the fourth time in five spring trip games, the Cardinals once again found themselves in dire need of a late-game rally Thursday afternoon against UW-Oshkosh.
Â
This time around, however, the Cardinals bats were as silent in the waning innings as they were in the early frames, as the Titans limited SMU to just four hits and dealt Saint Mary's a 13-3 setback.
Â
UW-Oshkosh came out swinging, scoring in six of the game's seven innings — scoring a solo run in the first, adding two more in the second and another in the fourth, before erupting for four runs in the fifth, three more in the sixth, and closing things out with a two-run seventh.
Â
Saint Mary's would plate two of its three runs in the fourth, getting back-to-back singles by
Ryan Csida (Kimberly, Wis.) and
Cameron Weber (Holmen, Wis.) and a walk to
Riley Bauman (Stratford, Wis.) to load the bases, with Csida and Weber both scoring on a UW-Oshkosh fielding error.
Â
The Cardinals added a single run in the sixth on a two-out, RBI single by
Sam Knickerbocker (Eau Claire, Wis.), scoring Weber — who had opened the inning with a single and promptly stole second to get into position to score easily on Knickerbocker's base knock.
Â
Weber finished with two of Saint Mary's four hits on the day, going 2-for-3 with a pair of runs scored. Csida and Knickerbocker had SMU's other two hits, with Bauman owning the team's lone RBI.
Â
Saint Mary's (4-3 overall) is back in action on Friday, squaring off against Benedictine (Ill.) in a nine-inning nonconference game slated for a 2:45 p.m. (EST) opening pitch.
