• FOR THE RECORD: The Cardinals head into their conference doubleheaders against Carleton and Macalester this weekend sitting at 9-7 through the first 16 games of the season, while boasting a 2-0 mark in conference play.
• LAST TIME OUT: Addison Hochevar (Lake Geneva, Wis.) tossed a complete-game one-hitter in leading SMU to a 1-0 win over Hamline in the first game of the teams’ conference-opening doubleheader last Saturday at Max Molock Field, with SMU completing the sweep with a 7-2 victory in the nightcap.
• MIAC HONOR: Hochevar was named MIAC Pitcher of the Week on Monday, after putting together his third career complete game, a one-hit gem in beating Hamline 1-0 last Saturday.
• SWEEPING UP: The Cardinals have played three doubleheaders this season, sweeping all three. SMU posted 5-2, 10-5 wins over Illinois College to kick off their spring trip on March 3, closed out their eight-game stay in Davenport, Fla., with 4-2, 11-3 wins over Saint Joseph’s six days later, and opened MIAC play with 1-0, 7-2 victories over Hamline last Saturday.
• THROWING UP ZEROS: The Cardinals’ 7-0 win over UW-Superior last Thursday and their 1-0 victory over Hamline two days later marked the first time SMU has posted back-to-back shutouts since blanking Augsburg (1-0) and Bethel (1-0) in late April, 2019.
• STREAK-SNAPPER; SMU’s 7-0 victory over UW-Superior last Thursday snapped the Cardinals’ season-high three-game losing streak. … The Cardinals head into their three mid-week games riding a three-game winning streak.
• AT THE PLATE: Ryan Csida (Kimberly, Wis.) heads into the week leading the Cardinals with a .364 batting average, going 20-for-55 in 16 games. Csida is one of five SMU players hitting above .300, being joined by Brinton Anderson (Pulaski, Wis.), Cameron Weber (Holmen, Wis. / .333), Daniel Sherman (Richfield, Minn. / .333), and Mason Coyle (Madison, Wis. / .308).
• ON THE RUN: The Cardinals have scored 84 runs through their first 16 games this season …. Csida and Weber share the team lead with 13 runs scored, one more than Coyle, while Riley Bauman (Stratford, Wis. / 10) has also scored 10 or more runs. … Miller, Coyle, and Riley Bauman have all scored a single-game season-high three times this season. … Weber and Riley Bauman each scored a single-game season- and career-high four runs in 2023 — Weber against Bethany Lutheran on April 30 and Bauman vs. Hamline on May 2.
• HIT PARADE: Csida has amassed a team-high 20 hits, two more than Weber, with Coyle (16), Sherman (16), and Riley Bauman (14) also reaching double figures in hits this season … Csida has put together a team-leading seven multiple-hit games, while Riley Bauman delivered a single-game season-high four hits against Dominican on March 4. … Weber posted a single-game career-high five hits against Bethany Lutheran on April 30, 2023. The five-hit game marked the only time SMU had a player record more than three hits in a game in 2023.
• EXTRA, EXTRA: Thirty-one of the Cardinals’ 128 hits this season have been for extra bases, including 22 doubles, five triples, and four home runs. … Coyle and Sherman share the team lead with four doubles each, followed by Csida and Stephen Golden (Centerville, Minn.) with three two-batters. … Riley Bauman has hit two of SMU’s five triples, with Csida, Sherman, and Coyle having clubbed SMU’s other three three-baggers.
• BOMBS AWAY: SMU’s four home runs this season have come from four different players — Riley Bauman, Csida, Coyle and Will Boeckman (Big Lake, Minn.). … Boeckman belted SMU’s first home run of the season, a two-run shot against Bethany Lutheran on Feb. 25. … Csida launched his first collegiate HR — a lead-off shot — against Benedictine on March 8. … Saint Mary’s hit 11 home runs in 2023, led Riley Bauman with five.

• OUCH: The Cardinals, who were hit by a pitch 32 times in 35 games in 2023, have already been plunked 21 time this season — with Weber getting hit a team-leading five times, one more than Csida.
• CATCH ME IF YOU CAN: Saint Mary’s is 35-for-42 in stolen base attempts this season, with Weber leading the way, going 12-for-13, followed by Riley Bauman (7-for-7), Csida (6-for-6), and Coyle (4-for-5). … SMU swiped 10 bases in its doubleheader sweep of Saint Joseph’s on March 9 — including six in Game 1. … Riley Bauman and Weber have each stolen a season-high three bases in a game this season — Bauman against Dominican on March 4 and Weber vs. Saint Joseph’s on March 9.

• ON THE MOUND: Saint Mary’s has used 14 different pitchers this season, with Eric Stomberg (St. Paul, Minn. / 3-1, 3.42 ERA) leading the team, logging 23 2/3 innings. • COMEBACK KIDS: The Cardinals put together three, five-run innings to beat Illinois Chicago (twice) and Marian during their eight-game spring trip. SMU scored five runs in the fifth inning of 5-2 and 10-5 wins over Illinois Chicago on March 3, before racking up five runs in the bottom of the ninth inning of a 7-6, walk-off win over Marian two days later.
• GETTING SOME (VERY) EARLY SWINGS: SMU’s season-opener against Bethany Lutheran on Feb. 25 and its game against Luther the followed day marked the earliest games played on Max Molock Field in program history. Saint Mary’s has never played a game in February on its home field.
• CRUNCHING THE NUMBERS: As a team, the Cardinals are hitting .268 (128-for-477), including 31 extra-base hits, while scoring 84 runs and boasting 68 RBIs. • BACK ON TRACK: After going 1-9 in their first 10 games, the Knights have rattled off three straight one-run victories — beating Redlands (11-10) and St. Scholastica (3-2, 5-4).

• BACK-TO-BACK: The Scots’ doubleheader against Saint Mary’s is the first of back-to-back twinbills for Macalester, which plays Bethel on Sunday. … Macalester is in the midst of playing three doubleheaders in a four-day span, having faced Hamline on Thursday, prior to their back-to-back meetings with Saint Mary’s and Bethel on Saturday and Sunday.
