Cardinals Finish Strong in Final Regular Season Meet

MANKATO, Minn. - The Saint Mary's Track and Field team returned for the second day of the Mankato Maverick Invitational to finish up their last regular meet of the season before the conference championship next weekend. 
 
Many Cardinals made personal best performances today, the first of whom being Rachael Kubichka, who ran 13.06s in the 100m dash, followed by Emma Gerdes who ran 13.87s.
 
In the men's 100m dash, Ben Kritsberg finished 11th with a time of 11.20s, and Oliver Adamson finished just behind him in 11.21s. Jinwoo Jung finished 14th with a time of 11.41s.
 
Saint Mary's had many women racing the 800m dash, many of whom ran new personal bests as well.
 
Mya Slavin was the first of these women, she raced 2:19.55, and took second place overall! Megan Frosch also ran a personal best, running 2:32.30 and taking 14th.
 
Adding to this personal-best list, was Kendra Schneider who ran 2:33.49 and took 16th; Abbie Meyer, running 2:34.36 (18th); and Tessa McMahon, running 2:34.74 (19th).
 
In the men's 800m, Zander Olmschenk also ran his personal best, finishing in 12th with 2:00.89. 
 
Grant Schneider took fifth in the men's 1500m, running 4:13.34. Behind him in sixth, Isaiah Fitzgerald ran 4:18.33, a new six-second personal record. 
 
For the final track event, the 4x400m relay, Goi Ruei, Brady Johnson, Eddie Paton, and Olmschenk raced to a new season best time of 3:30.55, and was the second place team in the event. 
 
Off the track, many athletes also made their mark.
 
In the shot put, Morgan Wallendal finished ninth with a throw of 11.48m, and Erica Wright finished close behind, with her best of 11.16m landing her in 11th place. Wallendal also placed sixth in the discus with a throw of 39.75m.
 
In the hammer throw, Anna Becker threw 44.78m and finished 12th.
 
Xara Gin performed well in the high jump, where she tied her season best by clearing a height of 1.48m. She also placed 15th in the pole vault, clearing 3.13m.
 
Nathan Longfors made a mark in his events as well, boasting ninth in the long jump (6.22m) and fifth in the triple jump (12.86m).
 
The Cardinals will have their final meet of the outdoor season next Friday and Saturday, May 9th and 10th, at the MIAC outdoor championships hosted by Macalester College.
 
At this meet, all qualifying athletes will compete against the best athletes in the conference to finish out their season.
