ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Saint Mary's track and field program was all over the Midwest this past weekend, competing across three meets in a packed stretch of competition. The Cardinals split squads between the Rider/Boldtstorff Invitational at Macalester, the prestigious Drake Relays, and the Kip Janvrin Open at Simpson.
Freshman Gage Hatch highlighted the weekend with a dominant showing at Macalester, capturing two individual titles. He sprinted to a personal-best 11.05 in the 100m before doubling back to win the 200m in another PR time of 22.16. Hatch also played a key role on the Cardinals' 4x100 relay team, which raced to a first-place finish in 43.02.
On the distance side, Isaiah Fitzgerald turned in a strong performance in the 5000m, placing ninth with a time of 15:38.08, while Liam Smith added a personal-best effort of 17:02.59.
In the middle-distance events, Goi Ruei delivered a points-scoring performance in the 800m, finishing fifth in 1:58.72, while Susan Bergeman recorded a personal-best 2:31.37 in the women's 800m.
In the 1500m, Mya Slavin led the way with a time of 4:38.46, while Addison Burckhardt (5:16.27) and Katherine Goergen (5:28.43) each notched personal-best performances.
At the Kip Janvrin Open, the women's sprint group saw solid efforts across the board, led by Samantha Munson's 12.55 in the 100m, alongside Joscelyn Saamanen (12.97) and McKenzie Munson (13.16). Deni Zaharieva added a strong showing in the 400m, clocking in at 59.52.
In the field events, Ron White paced the men's throws, finishing sixth in the hammer throw with a mark of 49.86m while adding a 41.06m toss in the discus. On the women's side, Isabella Schei recorded a personal-best 40.03m in the hammer throw, while also competing in the discus (20.70m). Lexi Repinski (30.70m) and Ellie Hoffarth (30.09m) led the way in the women's discus, with Suzette Alvarez adding a 36.22m mark in the hammer.
The Cardinals also saw action in the hurdles, where Daniel Araoz posted a time of 1:04.92 in the 400m hurdles.
The women's 4x100m relay team had a big showing at the Drake Relays where they placed 16th in the highly competitive run.
With multiple personal-best performances and event wins across three meets, the Cardinals continue to build momentum as they head into the final stretch of the outdoor season where they will compete at Meet of the UnSaintly hosted by Hamline on Friday, May 1.
