ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Saint Mary's track and field teams wrapped up the regular season on Friday at the Meet of the UnSaintly, hosted by Hamline, turning in several strong performances and personal-best marks ahead of next weekend's MIAC Outdoor Championships.
The Cardinals were highlighted by event victories from Goi Ruei and Mya Slavin, while multiple athletes posted season-best and personal-record performances in the team's final tune-up before the conference championships.
Ruei captured the men's 400-meter title with a personal-best time of 50.98, while Slavin won the women's 800-meter run in 2:10.58, a mark that currently ranks among the top performances in Division III this season.
The Cardinals also saw a strong day in the sprints. Gage Hatch placed second in the men's 100-meter dash with a personal-best time of 11.01, while Zari Young took second in the women's 100-meter dash in 12.22. Samantha Munson added a third-place finish in the women's 200-meter dash with a time of 25.48, while Deni Zaharieva recorded a season-best 26.47.
In the hurdles, Keaton Miller posted personal-best performances in both hurdle events, clocking an 18.12 in the 110-meter hurdles and a 1:02.72 in the 400-meter hurdles. Daniel Araoz added a time of 1:05.64 in the 400 hurdles.
The distance crew also continued to shine. Katherine Goergen finished third in the women's 3,000-meter steeplechase in 12:48.09 and later added a personal-best time of 2:38.57 in the 800-meter run. Liam Smith recorded a personal-best 16:44.42 in the men's 5,000-meter run, while Isaiah Fitzgerald added a personal-best 4:11.72 in the men's 1,500.
In the field events, Xara Gin cleared 3.44 meters to place second in the women's pole vault, while Ameryn Dostal finished fifth in the women's triple jump with a leap of 10.46 meters and added a mark of 4.56 meters in the long jump.
The throwing events featured several notable performances as well. Ron White posted a season-best throw of 12.67 meters in the shot put before taking ninth in the hammer throw with a toss of 46.39 meters. Rowan Sween recorded a throw of 33.31 meters in the discus, while Isabella Schei led the women's throwers with a second-place finish in the javelin at 35.12 meters. Schei also added a personal-best discus throw of 28.37 meters and a season-best mark of 9.01 meters in the shot put.
Lexi Repinski recorded marks of 29.37 meters in the discus and 9.13 meters in the shot put, while Ellie Hoffarth added a 22.57-meter javelin throw and a discus mark of 28.63 meters. Suzette Alvarez rounded out the women's shot put group with a throw of 8.82 meters.
The Cardinals now shift their focus to the MIAC Outdoor Championships, which will take place next weekend at St. Olaf College in Northfield, Minnesota. Times are to be determined.
