Game Summary vs. Gustavus
WINONA, Minn. —
Jake Jirik (Northfield, Minn.) scored four goals and
Blake Zemaitis (Mount Prospect, Ill.) added a goal and three assists, as the Saint Mary's University junior varsity men's hockey team routed Gustavus 10-2 Sunday afternoon at the SMU Ice Arena.
Jirik, who collected three asissts in SMU's season-opening 4-4 tie vs. Saint John's a day earlier, scored once in the first period, twice in the second and once in the third in leading the Cardinals to the lopsided win.
Gustavus got on the board first, before SMU responded with four unanswered goals, two by Jirik and one each by
Chase Marshall (Maple Grove, Minn.) and
Nick Wardlaw (Arnolds, Minn.). Jirik would add his second of the period — and thrd of the game — and
Nick Sullivan (Woodbury, Minn.) before the second period end, and SMU would score four more times in the third period to seal the win.
Mike Soulen (Irving, Texas) finished with 20 saves, while Eric Qvale (Minnetonka, Minn.) stopped all three shots he faced in seven minutes of relief.
