WINONA, Minn. — The Saint Mary's University junior varsity men's hockey team ran its winning streak to eight straight, as Nick Gualano scored three goals — including the eventual game-winner early in the third period, to lift the Cardinals to a 7-4 win over the Rochester Ice Hawks at the SMU Ice Arena.
Kyle Mass got SMU on teh board at 18:10 of the first period, and Gualano made it 2-0 a minute later, as the Cardinals took a 2-0 lead into the locker room after the opening period. Gualano and
Mike Anderson scored second-period goals, but the Ice Hawks' offense also came to life in the middle period, scoring four times to knot the game at 4-4 heading into the final 20 minutes.
Gualano gave SMU the lead for good two minutes into the third period, and
Jimmy Stewart and Maas would also net third-period goals to seal the win for SMU.
