Cardinals' big second period too much for Johnnies in 4-3 win

RICHMOND, Minn. — Brett Weber (Stillwater, Minn.) scored two goals and assisted on another, and Colin McGlynn (St. Louis, Mo.) added a pair of assists, as the Saint Mary's University junior varsity men's hockey team used a three-goal second period to beat Saint John's 4-3 Sunday.

After giving up the only goal of the first period, SMU got back-to-back goals from Weber and Jake Flattem (Shakopee, Minn.) to take a 2-1 lead midway through the second period. SJU's Ryan Witty tied the game at 13:08, but Weber's second goal of the game four minutes later gave SMU the lead for good.

Blake Zemaitis (Mount Prospect, Ill.) pushed SMU's lead to 4-2 two minutes into the third period, before SJU's Matt Bartholemew closed out the scoring with a shorthanded tally with 46 seconds remaining in regulation.

Eric Qvale (Minnetonka, Minn.) finished with 27 saves for the Cardinals, while SJU's Jack Reis had 26 saves in the losing effort.
