RICHMOND, Minn. — The Saint Mary's University junior varsity men's hockey team kicked off its season with a 4-4 tie against Saint John's Saturday evening.

Brett Weber (Stillwater, Minn.) led the way for SMU, collecting three goals, while Josh Strutz (Arlington Heights, Ill.) added the other goal and Jake Jirik (Northfield, Minn.) finished with three assists.

SMU jumped out to a 2-0 lead on goals by Weber and Strutz, then surrendered three unanswered goals to head into the third period trailing 3-2. Weber netted his second of the game six minutes into the third period, and, after SJU regained the lead with less than four mintues remaining in regulation, Weber completed his hat trick with the game-tying goal with 19 seconds on the clock.
