WINONA, Minn. —
Colin McGlynn (St. Louis, Mo.) scored three goals — including back-to-back tallies two minutes apart to break a 5-5 tie and lead the Saint Mary's University junior varsity men's hockey team to a 7-5 victory over Gustavus.
Augsburg scored three times in the game's first 2:19 to take a commanding 3-0 lead, but the Cardinals responded with three goals of their own off the sticks of
Joey Nadeau (Winona, Minn.),
Brett Weber (Stillwater, Minn.) and
Nick Wardlaw (Arnolds, Minn.) in a span of six minutes. GAC's Connor Useldinger gave GAC the lead at 4:3 when he capped a wild opening 10 minutes of the first period by beating SMU goalie Eric Qvale (Minnetonka, Minn.).
McGlynn netted his first of the game 16 seconds into the second period to tie the game at 4-4, with Weber and GAC's Jason Cooke exchanging second-period tallies to make it a 5-5 game heading in the final 20 minutes — setting up McGlynn's third-period heroics.
Qvale finished with 37 saves in goal for the Cardinals, while GAC goalie Anthony Medford finished with 32 saves.
