Olaf on Monday, getting 36 points from Zach Johnson en route to a 78-66 conference win in Northfield, Minn.

Last Meeting: Carleton outscored SMU by four points in the first half, taking a 30-26 halftime lead, then padded their first-half point production by 10 points to outscore the Cardinals by four more points in the second half in handing Saint Mary's a 70-62 Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference setback on Jan. 5 in Northfield, Minn.

A Year Ago: The Knights picked up a pair of hard-fought victories over SMU a year ago. Carleton raced out to a 26-18 first-half advantage and never looked back in handing SMU a 62-51 setback at the SMU Gym on Jan. 12. In the rematch, Saint Mary's took its first lead of the game, 71-70, on a Will Wright (Chicago, Ill.) layup with three seconds remaining. Following a timeout, the Knights got the ball to Zach Johnson, who missed his shot, but senior Tommy Drake had a tip-in as time expired to lift Carleton to a 72-71 victory in Northfield, Minn., on Feb. 9.

Cardinal Notes: The Cardinals' loss to St. Thomas was their fourth straight and sixth in their last eight games. … The Cardinals couldn't find their scoring touch vs. St. Thomas Monday, hitting a season-low 13 field goals. Their 44 points scored were also a season low. …  Will Wright (Chicago, Ill.), who entered Monday's game vs. St. Thomas having scored 10 or more points in 17 straight games and in 40 of his 44 collegiate games, was held to a two points vs. the nation's top-ranked team. … Wright boasts the team's top seven offensive performances, including a season- and career-best 41 points vs. MacMurray on Nov. 22. … He and Bradley Bruno (Chicago, Ill.) also share the team lead with two double-doubles each. Wright boasted 22 points and 10 rebounds vs. Winona State, and 41 points and 10 boasts vs. MacMurray, while Bruno posted 22 points and 10 boasts vs. Hamine and 12 points and 10 rebounds vs. Macalester. … Lukas Holland (La Crosse, Wis.) finished with nine points vs. the Tommies Monday. It was just the third time in SMU's last 27 games in which the SMU sophomore has been held under 10 points. … Holland's 20-point effort vs. Bethel on Jan. 24 marked the 15th time in SMU's 20 games in which SMU boasted at least one 20-point scorer. … Patrick Connolly (Chicago, Ill.) scored a team-best 10 points vs. the Tommies. … Connolly's 10-point effort vs. St. Thomas Monday was just the third time in SMU's last 36 games that Holland or Wright have not led the team in scoring. …  Wright and Holland enter tonight's game averaging in double figures, with Wright boasting a team-best 19.3 ppg average, while Holland is at 16.2 ppg. The two are also ranked No. 2 and No. 4 in the MIAC in scoring, respectively. Wright is averaging 18.4 ppg in 15 conference contests, while Holland is scoring at a 16.4 ppg clip. … The Cardinals' 70-65 win over Macalester on Jan. 21 was their first overtime game since the 2002-03 season, when SMU lost to UST 65-62. SMU's last overtime win came on Dec. 6, 2000, when the Cardinals posted an 80-70 win over St. Olaf. … Three of SMU's five wins have come on its home floor.  

Knight Notes: The Knights, who pushed their winning streak to three straight with their 78-66 victory over St. Olaf Monday, moved into a three-way tie with Augsburg and Bethel for second place in the conference standings with six games to play. … Monday's win vs. the Oles was Carleton's 100th all-time vs. their cross-town rival. … The Knights have netted 70 or more points in 11 of their 19 games and enter tonight's game averaging 70.1 ppg. … Zach Johnson equaled his career best with 36 points vs. the Oles Monday. It was his seventh career game with 30 or more points and the fourth time he has netted 36. … Johnson is the only active MIAC player, and only Carleton player ever, to score 36 or more points multiple times. He is now 11 points behind Gerrick Monroe '93 for second on Carleton's all-time scoring list and only 75 points from Josh Wilhelm's '99 school record. … Johnson leads the MIAC in scoring, averaging 23.5 ppg in 14 conference games, and enters tonight's contest averaging 23.9 ppg overall. … Bryan Rosett notched his second straight double-double on Monday with 10 points and a game-high 13 rebounds.
