Last Action: The Cardinals are coming off a disappointing sweep at the hands of Bethel Wednesday. The Royals held SMU to just four hits and one run in beating the Cardinals 5-1 in the opener. Bethel then completed the sweep, getting a two-out, two-run, walk-off home run from Lynnae Thompson in the bottom of the seventh to beat the Cardinals 8-6. … Concordia, meanwhile, dropped a pair of conference games Friday, falling to Hamline 6-2 and 5-3 in St. Paul, Minn.

Last Meeting: SMU collected a pair of impressive wins over Concordia a year ago in Moorhead, Minn., as the Cardinals got a complete-game, two-hit pitching effort from Sarah Fitzgerald in the opener — winning 5-0 — then watched Jenna Johnson take a no-hitter into the fifth, before combining with Fitzgerald on another two-hitter in a 4-1 Game 2 win in Moorhead, Minn.

Saint Mary's Cardinal Notes: The Cardinals' back-to-back losses to Bethel marked the first time this season SMU has been swept in a doubleheader. … Cassie Otte (Randolph, Minn.), who entered Wednesday's twinbill vs. Bethel having posted three-hit performances in three of the team's last four games, went 4-for-8 vs. Bethel — going 2-for-4 in each game. Otte now leads the team with 14 multiple-hit games, including six three-hit games. … The Cardinals banged out 19 hits in the opener vs. St. Olaf last Tuesday, getting three hits each from Danielle Geske (Rosemount, Minn.), Jessica Sharpe (Ottawa, Ill.), Nicole Olson (New Brighton, Minn.) and Angie Diercks (Red Wing, Minn.). … Katy Gannon (Roselle, Ill.), who drove in three runs vs. Bethel Wednesday, leads the team in RBIs with 22, while also boasting a team-leading five multiple-RBI games. … Geske belted two home runs vs. St. Olaf Tuesday, including a third-inning, Game 2 grand slam. Gannon also collected a home run vs. the Oles and the two share the team lead in HRs with three each. … Gannon was held hitless in Game 1 vs. Saint Benedict on April 4, snapping her season-, team- and career-high 14-game hitting streak and marking the first time this season she failed to collect at least one hit.  Gannon has hit safely in 17 of the team's 20 games. … Otte, who has also hit safely in 17 games this season, is the team's offensive leader, posting team-bests in average (.514), at-bats (74), runs (26), hits (38), on-base percentage (.554) and stolen bases (13). … SMU's pitching staff enters today's DH boasting a 2.82 earned-run-average. … Betzold, who threw six innings in SMU's two games vs. Bethel Tuesday, has thrown a team-leading 73 innings, posting a 3.07 earned-run-average and an 8-5 record, while also striking out a team-best 28. … Madeline Salmon (Woodbury, Minn.), who tossed a six-inning, two-hit, complete-game shutout in her first collegiate start vs. St. Joseph's on March 21, earned her first collegiate save Tuesday, tossing three innings of three-hit relief vs. St. Olaf. … SMU's game-winning, seventh-inning run vs. Saint Benedict in the opener last Saturday marked the first time this season the Cardinals had scored a run in their final at-bat. … SMU's 27 runs vs. Mount Mary on March 20 marked the second time this season the Cardinals have plated 20 or more runs. SMU opened the season with a 29-0 rout of North Central (Minn.) on March 14. … SMU's 27- and 29-run outbursts were the second- and third-most runs scored in school history, behind the 43 runs the Cardinals plated in a 43-2 win over St. Catherine on April 24, 1997. … The Cardinals have scored 10 or more runs eight times this season. … The Cardinals have outscored their first 20 opponents 162-61 — including 30-5 in the second inning and 47-11 in the third. Concordia Cobber Notes: Wednesday's games vs. Augsburg were Concordia's first since beating UW-Stevens Point 1-0 in Game 2 of their nonconference doubleheader at the Augsburg Dome on March 7. … Due to the flooding in the Fargo-Moorhead area, the Cobbers have had five doubleheaders postponed. … With their two losses to Hamline Friday, the Cobbers have now dropped four straight. … Emily Jensen has been the Cobbers' offensive leader, boasting a .375 batting average, while also boasting team highs in at-bats (56), runs (14), hits (21), triples (3), total bases (30), slugging percentage (.536) and stolen bases (6). … Jensen has swiped six of the team's eight bases. … Kesley Jones and Erin Johnson have been the Cobbers' workhorses on the mound, with Jones throwing a team-best 60.0 innings, while Johnson has thrown 51.2. Jones owns four of the team's five wins, and also leads the team with 67 strikeouts. … The Cobbers have been outscored in every innings, including 12-3 in the sixth. … Concordia is 2-9 when its opponent scores first. … The Cobbers are 1-10 when trailing after the sixth inning and have not won a game when allowing a home run (0-7).
