Match Summary

RED WING, Minn. — Katelyn Rizzi (Austin, Minn.) got her golf season off to a flying start Tuesday afternoon, firing an 84 to earn medalist honors in the Saint Mary's University women's golf team's dual meet against Macalester.

Unfortunately, the rest of the Cardinals couldn't follow suit.

Despite Rizzi's efforts, the Cardinals did not have enough firepower against the Scots, falling 388-393 in the teams' dual meet at Mississippi National Golf Club.

“Katelyn had a great first round — we just weren't able to give her enough support,” said SMU coach Jeff Stangl. “It was a day of a lot of good golf, interspersed with a little too much not-so-good.”

Gia Puch (Des Plaines, Ill.) chipped in a 90 for the Cardinals, while Rachael McNary (Cannon Falls, Minn. / 100), Jenna Mrozinski (North St. Paul, Minn. / 119) and Colleen Norwell (Orland Park, Ill. / 120) rounded out the Cardinals' top five.

The Cardinals are back in action this weekend, taking part in the UW-Eau Claire Invitational Saturday and Sunday in Eau Claire, Wis.
